CA conservative leader calls on the GOP to unite behind Poizner
(Sacramento) -- Steve Poizner's campaign for California Insurance Commissioner announced today the endorsement of Congressman John Doolittle, a member of the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives and a strong ally of President Bush."I've met with Steve Poizner and I believe he has exactly the qualities we need in our next Insurance Commissioner, a genuine commitment to free market competition that will lower rates, and real-world business experience that will streamline and modernize the Department of Insurance," Congressman Doolittle said. "His competence and knowledge of the issues make him the perfect candidate to defeat Cruz Bustamante in November, and he has my full support."

Steve Poizner ran for the CA Assembly and lost in a Democratic district to Ira Ruskin. Steve Poizner is a Republican who tried to hide his party affiliation in the election to beat his opponent. He put millions of dollars in this smaller district election, which was a waste of money.
This boils down to this: he is a political failure.
Cruz Bustamante, the Lieutenant Governor of CA, ran against the then-unbeatable Arnold Schwarzenegger but would have won without Arnold in the race. He is term limited and is running or Insurance Commissioner and will win.
The culture of the Republicans in CA is no different from the Republicans in Washington, DC: they are filled with corrupt leaders(more so than Democrats, although Dems aren't completely innocent).
It to bad that both Doolittle and Poizner are going down (well, for them). My vote is with Lieutenant Governor Bustamante for Insurance Commissioner, and a hope of justice for Doolittle and all other corrupt politicians.

Why would Nicholas Smith back Bustamante for Insurance Commissioner? Cruz is already beholden to the industry for over $100,000 and he has said nothing about genuine reforms that are needed in the field of insurance. A termed-out political hack who ran an inept campaign in the recall, he offers policy holders no hope for reining in an avaricious industry.
Poizner is a joke, but Bustamante has made a bigger joke of the campaign by running on an anti-obesity platform.
There are two candidates truly committed to properly supervising the insurance industry and who have thoughtful, considered opinions about reforms: Tom Condit and Larry Cafiero. But California's lock-step, partisan voters will look no further than party affiliation and will give us one of the clowns - Poizner or Bustamante - neither of whom will do anything for the people of California.
