Kudos Dick DeVos

Maybe we're in the minority, but we love the trivia contest Republican Dick DeVos features in his weekly MI GOV campaign emails. In fact, they are so good, we thought we'd include this week's question from the DeVos email. As you'll see, these aren't bogus questions designed to elicit crappy campaign spin, but real political trivia. Enjoy.

Trivia Challenge

When Democratic Senator Pat McNamara died in 1966, Governor George Romney appointed this person to fill the vacancy. Name the person.

Please email your response, with the name of the city you live in , to Trivia@DeVosForGovernor.com .

In all seriousness, games are always a good way to create good will with you activists. We're surprised we don't see more of this. And if a lot of campaigns are doing this already, let us know. [CHUCK TODD]

Dear Mr. DeVos,

As owner of a small business in SW Michigan, I have some concerns. How can I get answers to some of my questions? Can I e-mail through this web site or is there another way. Please advise.

Dick,

We are going to elect you. You know this state needs jobs. I read in the paper that your company exploits cheap labor overseas. That bothers me. Now that the Single business Tax is going to be gone, I think that you should bring those jobs back to Michigan. You don't have anymore excuses. I exspect to see Amway plants all over this state. If not, you will not see a second term.

Dear Dick Devoss
I am writing this letter because I dont know where else to turn. I am a married woman with two little precious boys. Brendan is 4 and Aidan is 15 months both by the same father. My husband is a hard worker goes to work each day and provides a home for his family. He pays health insurance weekely for us. We do not get any help from the government. I pay for my oldest to go to preschool, I paid for him to go to nursery school. I didnt get it for free. When my youngest was born he was on special formula Nutramgin that was about 30.00 per can. I used appx. 3 cans per week. I had no help with that what so ever. That was all on my husband to provide for his family. I cannot go back to work for I cannot afford daycare so I choose to stay home and raise my boys. My youngest son is 15 months old and I am still trying to pay whatever I can to pay my hospital/obgyn bill off. As it stands my husband pays weekly for our health insurance, so I guess it helps some what but not enough. Lately, my youngest has been at the doctors office numerous times. Which is a 20.00 copay each visit.. Then add on all the prescriptions I have purchased which all has lead me to a visit at the ear nose and throat dr. Which he prescribed me a nasonex spray which again is another 40.00 copay as well. The thing is the ENT wants my son to have tubes surgical placed into his ears. Which is a simple procedure but an expensive one at that. My insurance covers 30% after my dedictible is met which it hasnt been met i still owe the 1000.00. The surgons fee is 550.00 the facility fee is around 2200.00 and I havent questioned the anestologist;s fee yet. So the total I would be out would be roughly 1500.00. I dont understand how working familys cant get any help. I have a close friend of mine who is a single mother of three. Three children from three different fathers. The last child the wonderful state of Michigan is paying for three men to be tested to see if they are the father. She lives in low income housing, her daughter goes to preschool at head start which she pays nothing. Her townhouse is nicer than my house. 3 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, central air.. and still she pays nothing. She chooses not to work and if she does work the state pays for her to have daycare she wouldnt pay for daycare. She gets roughly around 400.00 a month for food stamps. ANd she gets WICK for her 2 youngest which means she pays nothing for formula etc.. Her health benefits 100% covered no copay and she fully uses them. If her gas or electric gets shut off she will find some random church and they pay it for her..
It is so discurging that My family and I am sure many other familys are trying to do the right thing by providing a loving and caring home for thir family and our state doesnt care. The state would rather let this other girl live like a queen.
I just think something can or should be done for working familys. You can say income tax well, she works about a few weeks out of the year jobs here or there. The state gave her a voucher for a car for trasportation, if my car brakes down I have to pay for that no one else will. She still gets income tax refund every year just like I do.

Please take this in conserdation.. I cannot afford to have a needed surgery for my son. We are trying to do whatever we can to stay afloat it is just so hard. I have to risk hearing loss, and speech class for my son because We cannot afford the surgery

I hope you can read this and take a stand in giving back to working familys.
thank you

just thought the state would like to know just how Governor Granholm
is balancing the budget. By withholding and mailing the checks for Foster and adoptive family's 13 days late food, rent and car payments who needs'em
as adoptive parents we plan our budget around these checks and when the
state does not fulfill there commitment it hurts all the family's that open there doors to foster and adoption . food and shelter are not options.
calls to the state hot line just lead to a recording the checks are in the mail!
a big surprise, not.
story or not thanks
