The Very Model Of A Modern Major General?
In lieu of last week's YearlyKos netroots buzzfest, it might be useful to see which candidates actually get the most traffic on their Web sites. According to data from an Alexa.com, on which users can track and compare web site traffic, Clark and Kerry come out on top in the last three months out of all the potential '08 presidential candidates:
Site -- Internet Ranking
Clark's WesPAC -- 71,158
JohnKerry.com -- 76,436
Edwards' OneAmericaCommittee.com -- 211,756
Gingrich's Newt.org -- 229,197
blog.electromneyin2008.com -- 238,200
HillaryClinton.com (re-election site) -- 253,280
Frist's VolPAC -- 255,254
Alright, so none of the sites are in the Stratosphere -- so to speak. But for perspective, Whitehouse.gov is ranked 2,848 and Wonkette.com comes in at 8,031. Nevertheless it shows Gen. Wesley Clark has kept up on a strong internet presence since '04. Sort of like the DraftClark.com movement never died, but has actually brought in more supporters via the internet. Clark's internet team attributes their high traffic -- including a particularly large increase since the beginning of the year -- to the General's own participation on the site including chats, posting on the blog and podcasting. In other words, Mark Warner might give the bloggers chocolate fountains in Vegas, but Clark is page views ahead in having a dedicated online community. According to Alexa, 70 percent of the site's traffic heads straight to the login portal where users can convserse with and about Clark.
John Kerry is not so far behind Clark, which means it doesn't take a computer nerd to realize his email list from '04 is very carefully maintained and grown. Although his site has far fewer bells and whistles than Clark, he has large jumps in both viewership and rankings depending on the issue du jour. Even without the kind of internet community that Clark has fostered, Kerry still maintains large traffic flow to his site.
On the whole, Democrats' sites are getting way more traffic than Republicans' sites. Leading the GOP pack is Newt Gingrich, who also has top rated Podcasts. It's more than interesting to note that both Newt and Clark are both the highest traffic earners in their parties -- and both are not office holders. Not only does this give them more time to blog and work on the site, but also more freedom to go off message when they do go online.
Finally, Romney's own Commonwealth PAC was so low that it didn't even make Alexa's rankings. This is in part because the PAC only recently launched, so take a look at the most popular draft site on the internet according to Alexa. It gets more traffic than any other Republican site except for Newt.org. We'll have to check back in a few months to see how his Commonwealth PAC is doing, especially in comparison to the unofficial Draft Romney site.

Thank you for mentioning my blog in this story. I pride myself on the work I've done on behalf of Governor Romney. My goal is to increase the name recognition of Governor Romney as well as showcase his achievements both as Governor of Massachusetts and his work in the private sector prior to becoming Governor. I try to keep the posts positive, and limit the criticisms to constructive ones that just tell the facts. It's taken a lot of work to get the site ranked where it is, I've spent countless hours working on it. But to me it's been worth every moment, in that I believe that it will lead to his election as our next President of the United States.
