Warner Staffs Up Iowa Democrats
Ex-VA Gov. Mark Warner heads to Iowa this week bearing a gift.
His PAC, Forward Together, contributed a large sum of money to the Iowa Democratic Party, which will use the cash to fund a new staff position.
In August, the party will hire field operative Courtney Dozier to help coordinate its voter mobiliziation programs.
Dozier comes to Iowa from, of course, Virginia, where she served as deputy director of the House Caucus in Virginia. In 2004, she was deputy field director for America Coming Together in West Virginia and worked on the '05 Virginia coordinated campaign.
Warner's cash also funds a staff position for New Hampshire Democrats. Audra Tafoya works for State Senate Dems. (Sen. Evan Bayh's All America PAC also has an aide on the staff of the NH party.)
Warner touches down on Iowa Tuesday with stops in Davenport and Cedar Rapids and Burlington. His itinerary includes events with workers at an Archer Daniels Midland plant and a soon-to-shut-down Rubbermaid factory.
It's his second trip of the cycle and his first political trip after a long summer vacation with his family.
A footnote: Warner's PAC will release an estimate of the amount of money he's raised for other Democrats this cycle -- about $5M. That puts him in the ballpark of Sen. Hillary Clinton, who has raised at least $7.5 million for Democrats, Ex-Sen. John Edwards, who has raised at least $6.5 million. Everyone lags Sen. John Kerry, who has raised close to $14 million.
