Analysis: Second Guessing From Lieberman Backers

Sen. Joe Lieberman's narrow defeat for renomination has started a vigorous round of second guessing among sympathetic state Democrats. The campaign's decision late last week to scale back its GOTV effort is seen as a crucial error in the surprisingly close-run contest. Lieberman's ground game today was not as extensive as challenger Lamont's. Proof of that came in the returns from the state's largest city, Bridgeport. The Democratic organization there had become frustrated with Lieberman's campaign and failed to make its usual exertions for Lieberman, instead concentrating on Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Dan Malloy. Lieberman lost Bridgeport by 4%. He had been expected to win convincingly. [KEVIN F. RENNIE]

Lieberman's ground game wasn't as good because he was importing college republicans and DC lobbyists to work his GOTV operation. He didn't scale back on his ground game, he just didn't have much of one to begin with since he has been out of touch with CT since 2002 when he decided to run for president.

Joe will noe recieve Republican cash. Joe can go after all those Blue collar Democrats that have pretty much left the party. Repbublicans out number the Dems in those rich towns. Jodi Rell, the rebublican gov, has high 60's, low 70's approval #'s (why the popular attny gen did not run. To paint Ct as a very blue state is a bit of a over statement. 3 out of 5 congressional is GOP, Govenor is GOP. Lamont has his work cut out for him. Joe will win election. My final #s:
Joe, 52%
Ned, 47%
Art, 5%

The GOP vote will put Joe over the top.

Dem's loose a seat in the senate.

currently the gop has 3 districts, but that could change, and Mr. Shays isn't a typical Republican. He strongly supports stem-cell for example.

if you numbers are correct, the democrats are untouched nationally, because lieberman claims he will caucus with the democrats, as jeffords did, so dems retain the seat.
