The Monkey Is Not Dead. We Repeat. The Monkey Is Not Dead

straw.gif It's Day 10 of our coverage of Macaca-iana or Macaca-gate or Liberal Washington Post-gate, or whatever you'd like to call it.

Two new developments of interest.

Did Allen's team -- or a sympathizer -- poll Northern Virginia to see whether the "Macaca" remark left a bruise?

A NoVa voter reports receiving a telephone survey asking pointed questions about the nature and scope of Allen's apology.

The dial room in question, according to the caller, was "Central Research."

Allen's campaign won't discuss its polling; the Virginia GOP disclaims any knowledge; the NRSC says it hasn't done a poll, either. And Webb's campaign has no idea, either.

The first portion (after asking about general favorability and initial ballot) was about Allen; the surveyist asked:

1) Have you seen/read/heard the Macaca comment?

2) Do you consider the comment racist?

3) Have you seen/read that Allen had apologized?

4) Should Allen say he is running for president while he’s running for senate or should he not comment on any 2008 presidential aspirations at this time?

The second portion tested attacks on Webb.

One argument referred to Webb inferred he was a sexist, using an alleged quote by Webb calling women “:thunder thighs." Another argument referred to Webb’s “Why Women Can’t Fight” article. A third referred to Webb’s lack of knowledge about Craney island.

Item two is a book blurb from prolific author James Webb that was posted today RedState.org.

William Perry Pendley's "Warriors of the West: Fighting Bureaucrats, Radical Groups, and Liberal Judges on America's Frontier" occasioned this from Mr. Webb:

"Politicians and judges over the past forty years have created the mythology that white America is a monolith whose history is based on social and economic privilege, while anyone who is not white is by definition disadvantaged. No one knows this better than William Perry Pendley and a few have done more to put an end to this outrage."

Now -- to be fair to Mr. Webb, his historical scholarship has focused on how the Scotch-Irish were a particularly distinct and influential species of American immigrant.

We can't really say where RedState got the blurb from. Perhaps it came from Allen's campaign; we know they have reams of Webb research at their disposal.

But we also know that there are many folks in Webb's campaign who know that a quote like this turns Macaca into an 11 or 12-day story.

Whether responsible for it or not, we assume that Allen's campaign, which won't discuss its strategy, hopes a quote like this will drive a wedge within Webb's base.

Of course -- that's exactly what Webb primary opponent Harris Miller (D) tried to do, and it didn't work.

If the Allen team thinks dragging out issues of race into the campaign and obviously dragging "macaca" further along helps them, watch out by next month - Allen's number will be in the low forties. Mark it down. Allen's history on race is just awful. Also, Allen has a long record of racially insensitivity which is begging to be exposed.

The Macaca incident was overwhelmingly viewed as a racist incident by Sen. Allen. I can only hope that Wadhams continues to push the macaca story directly or indirectly.

The so-called apology is nonsense.

First, the statement was not a “mistake”, implying a slip of the tongue or an excited utterance. Instead it was a planned routine to harass the opposing campaign worker, just like a comedian having a scripted bit prepared in the event that the performer gets heckled. The writers scripting that bit just didn’t consider how it would be perceived.

Second, whether or not “macaca” is derogatory is irrelevant --- it is a gibberish ‘name’, to emphasize the target is a furriner and not a true Merkin. Making fun of unusual names is a typical xenophobic tactic. Another analogy is if one guy sees a well-endowed woman and says “check out those bazoombas”; the listener understands the remark despite “bazoombas” not actually being a real word ! Allen stupidly used an actual derogatory term rather than a gibberish term !

Third, the truly racist comment was the “welcome to American” line. The target was born in the US & therefore just as American as Senator Allen. The only reason to think the target was not American was the target’s skin color --- Senator Allen's assuming that the target wasn’t American/Virginian due to his skin color was racism !

Fourth, the apology was for having offended the victim, not that Allen admitted that he said something offensive --- similar to “I’m sorry you’re stupid.”

However, the media seems gullible enough to swallow the spin !

Hilarious.

Offset 'racist' comments by claiming your opponent is 'sexist.'

Hey, there are more women than minorities, after all, according to the pollsters. And women may be more likely to vote than minorities... so, I gotta say, good tactic, Mr. Rove, er. Mr. Allen.

Macaca is a weird thing to call him, but I saw the tape, and the 'Welcome to America' thing was more of a red-state, blue state. The implication being that He (Allen) was in the REAL America, that is the heartland while his opponent, Macaca's employer, never left the headquarters of the media-elite on the coasts - therefore, by following Allen around, Macaca got to see the real US. Hence, 'Welcome to America.'

Once a racist, always a racist.

And while you are feverishly trying to control the damage done, how about an apology to the rest of the non-real world. The one that exists outside 'America and the real world of Virginia.'

I am sick of Republicans speaking in code. If the Republican party is going to the be the WHITE POWER party, they need to step up with fists and rifles raised and publicly and passionately praise Jesus they are WHITE and testify that WHITE POWER reigns supreme!

Allen should have kept his mouth shut, shot and roasted the college kid, instead of playing with him, and said a prayer thanking God for granting him the POWER of WHITENESS before eating his prey. That's what Allen's constituents want to see and that's why his approval rating has fallen through the floor.

Effeminate, gutless poseurs like this do not deserve to be called Republicans.

Hey George buddy,

Why did you apologize?!?!? I mean what right did that brown skin boy have to be there anyway?? It's not like he had a sign on his neck saying he was born and raised in Virginia, how were you to know he was not a monkey boy? You had nothing to apologize for! At least you didn't apologize immediately, you did make some good excuses, and boy howdy were they funny! I was laughing with you buddy! Especially the mullet and macaca one, I mean they do start with the same letter! But them damn liberals kept attacking you and would not let this subject drop, so I guess you eventually did have to give a real apology so we could all move on. I think you should spin this around George buddy you're the real victim here, you did not do anything wrong.
Keep Virginia White!
