From Last Call: 5pm News Update

  • John Kerry "fired back" at the WH and GOP. And an aide said Kerry "was supposed to say" yesterday that if "you aren't smart" you "end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq" (CNN.com).

  • Pres. Bush said: "Our troops did not enlist because they did not study hard in school or do their homework" (release).

  • Sen. George Allen (R-VA) "declined to answer" a UVA law student's question "about whether he had ever spat at his first wife" and the student "was pushed away" (DailyProgress.com). For more on "Fight Club Meets Brooks Brothers," click here. Allen's campaign issued a press release entitled "Democrat Activist Verbally Attacks Allen."

  • Ex-Pres. Clinton will campaign with NV GOV's Dina Titus (D) on Thursday (release).

  • Gov. Mitch Daniels (R-IN) said of John McCain: "The Republican Party could not do better" (IndyStar.com).

    Oh sure, George Allen "declined" to answer the question--just before Allen's staffers wrestled him to the floor, nearly hitting a glass wall which could have caused serious injury.

    "Democrat Activist Verbally Attacks Allen."

    What a whiner. Mike Stark was not protesting, but a constituent who was asking his senator a question after a campaign event. There was no attempt to interrupt or disrupt the event itself.

    Allen could put all of this to rest by answering the questions about the arrest records he refuses to make public and whether he had ever spit on his first wife.

    So Kerry's folks are arguing that he was saying that if you do not study hard, then you might be elected President?

    Considering he had worse grades than President Bush, I guess it did not work for Kerry.
