For Democrats, This May Be THE Week....

"They're in lock-down."

That's what a Clinton outsider tells us about the small circle of insiders who're preparing a presidential bid for Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Excitement among Clinton supporters is building in anticipation of an expected announcement by the end of next weekend that Clinton has decided to ...

1. open an exploratory committee.
2. run for president, and therefore would open a full presidential committee
3. strongly indicate publicly that she will run, but hold off opening a committee until later on

Whatever Clinton is planning does not seem to involve travel to NH, NV, IA or SC just yet.

We think options 1 and 2, in that order, are possible.

A Clinton spokesman declined to play 20 Questions with the Hotline about the date she'll get in.

If Clinton pops her head out this week -- days after Sen. Barack Obama gets in -- it'll be very difficult not read her move as a reaction to Obama's, although there are a few reasons to be skeptical of that interpretation.

Senior Clinton advisers have said in the past that Clinton would likely participate in all formal debates and most early forums and that she planned to make a splash with her fundraising during the first quarter of 2007. Those dates are closing in; the first real cattle-call of Democratic moo-cows is less than three weeks away in Washington.

No doubt, though, that any move by Clinton, whether it's an official announcement or a forward-leaning television in terview, will sap some of the publicity generated by Obama's expected announcement.

When all the smoke clears:

McCain/Lieberman

vs

Clinton/Obama

Screw both of them. I want Tom Tancredo to run so we can stop illegal immigration and drug traffic once and for all.

Geoff Strebel | 01.15.07 04:27 PM

When Hillary announces then she may actually have to debate Barack and Edwards.

Later is better for her but is she afraid of fading?

Flap | 01.15.07 04:28 PM

In short, who cares? If a Democrat wins, government will take more money from us than we can afford to spend in taxes. If Republican wins, government will be permissive, and corporations will take more money from us than we can afford to spend for goods and services.

It makes no difference, because neither major party is "for the people". They're "for" THEIR people...

Hillary should be in prison. What is wrong with the masses? Run her out of this country.

METROCORP | 01.15.07 04:37 PM

Count me as excited - I can't wait for this campaign to begin. And, yes, she CAN win!

Craig | 01.15.07 04:46 PM

HRC should bail. The poll numbers stink and Obama is a hit with the kids. Attacking Edwards over the weekend lowers the bar for her considerably. If she is going to get in the trenches this early with lightweights like Edwards, she will be heavily damaged goods by November of 2008.

Moving to the left to bail on her Iraq vote smells a lot like a guy named Kerry. "I voted for it before I voted against it". Hardly presidential timber then and certainly now.

While the media will spend every moment of the day fixated on Hilary, should she throw her hat into the ring, the majority of Americans will be fixated on Tom Tancredo when he decides to run later today.

J.D. | 01.15.07 05:06 PM

All the Democrats should be in lock down ! They are a bigger enemy to America than the iraqies are

Me thinks big ankles should stay out of the race, no chance to win. Bring on Newt, he is the man. Newt and Colin would blow the country away.

Obama for president? Just what we need. A militant muslim in the White House.

Ann Jameson | 01.15.07 05:59 PM

If Hillary Clinton bids for the Presidency in 2008, it's bound to fail. By then, we will have had a Bush or a Clinton in the White House for the last 20 years. The American people don't want another Bush or Clinton for President. Jeb Bush gets it. When the Florida governor was asked recently if he planned to run for President, he said, basically, "Hell, no!"

Bob | 01.15.07 06:02 PM

She still hasn't explained the cattle futures, the missing FBI files, the billing records being found the day after the statue of limitations, the campaign finance coruption charges, her role in the pardons, or the infiltration of the commerce department and energy departments under her previous occupancy of the White House.

One assumes the Dems, with their new found political success, are too samrt to blow it on this utterly compromised vehicle. No wonder people are excited about Obama.

Anybody but Hillary!

mr_blue | 01.15.07 06:16 PM

Hillary, Don't do it. You will NOT win the big one.

Ned DiMaggio | 01.15.07 06:27 PM

I think Barak could do well, but they will hit his lack of experience. The wrong sort will also pick on his background, middle name, etc. May the best man or woman get the nomination.

Neil B. | 01.15.07 06:27 PM

Please lose the broom rider, Americans need a fresh vision. Hillary does not represent the majority of the people or a positive future.

Wal | 01.15.07 07:32 PM

Oh, please spare us. We don't want Hillary.

Delores Sapp | 01.15.07 08:05 PM

I keep hoping Hillary will not run and spare us from her being on the news every night.

I am a democratic woman who thinks she is cold, calculating and a total coorporate insider.

She does not inspire or make me feel anything other than irritable.

She doesn't have the star power of a Nancy Pelosi.
However, on the good news front, my candidate will be announcing as well and I do hope Senator Obama crushes her.

vwcat | 01.15.07 08:28 PM

Let the games begin!!!!!

Nancy | 01.15.07 10:40 PM

Who cares?

Joy | 01.16.07 12:08 AM

Hillary Clinton reminds me of the HR lady that every company has. Her attitude and personality are so sub-par. Just not presidential

Frank | 01.16.07 12:09 AM

I hope she does. I hope this will be the final show of the Clintons.

Her arrival will bring on a destroyed Republican party and she will herself rebuild the Republican party. I as a Republican have been strongly looking at Obama. With Hillary in the mix, you can bet the Republicans will come back. If it ended up with her and a Republican. I would take the Republican.
Still, I like Obama. And Yes, I am white.

Ron | 01.16.07 01:41 AM

Hillary is toast anyway.

Who Cares About Hillary? | 01.16.07 07:49 AM

Obama embodies what I believe this great country is all about. I hope that the American electorate will open their eyes, and see that they have a chance to elect a smart, honest, uncorrupted politician. But, does Obama really have a chance to become president? Is America ready to elect a black man? Will Middle America think that Osama is running and not Obama?

Nicolas | 01.16.07 02:53 PM

The most talented person available to run for
US President this 2008 election, and would do a
good job is Senator Hilary Clinton. If Senator
Obama would be her running mate for Vice Pres.
this team would be unbeatable. Good luck to
Clinton/Obama ticket.
Cheers,
Fred

Fred | 01.16.07 03:03 PM

Tancredo can win...a speech slot at the Republican convention at best. And that's his goal, he knows the score.

McCain looks most likely as the Repub nominee. Vice nominee is wide open, but won't be Lieberman, get real.

Dem nominee is "open." Does Obama have the required illuminati bloodline? (Someone check with David Icke/sarc.) I doubt he does, so if he gets the brass ring, at least that will put the Conspiracy Theorists away for a while. He also has no qualifications, but then, he is a black Democrat, so what more does he need? The Clinton machine fights it out with the rest, is this the end for the Clintons? Someone check with Icke, but I think Hillary does have the required bloodline! (Just like Kerry and Bush.) :D

Steve-o | 01.16.07 05:47 PM

I hope Obama loses or runs out of money because his inexperience will come back to haunt him in the general election. I'm a big Clinton supporter and I couldn't care less about the whining Republicans as evidenced in the above comments.

Big Rob | 01.17.07 12:30 AM

Hillary is the most talented person to lead America. I wish her well.

atim ekpo | 01.17.07 06:20 AM

Steve-0 are you belittling David Icke? because whoever has the bloodline will be put into the position of President.
