Richardson Raises Six, Efficiently Keeps 5

The $6 million dollars raised by Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico would, in 2004, be seen as a triumph. We're impressed by the campaign's $5 million cash on hand, which indicates a low burn rate. Still, Richardson has a fully functioning policy staff -- his gubernatorial executive office -- and he spends half his time or more tending to the business of his state. So he hasn't had to spend as much money as the rest of the lot.

Says Pahl Shipley, Richardson's communications director: "We're very pleased with where we are. We're on goal, on budget, and we're in it for the duration."

Richardson opened his presidential account the third week in January. He transferred nothing in -- he couldn't, being a state official.

The verdict: $6 million is a show of strength for a sitting governor not considered to be in the top tier.

Richardson is the dark horse candidate who will likely steal the nomination. He is lying low on most radars, but most of his staunch supporter realize this uncanny attribute as an asset more than as a liability.

The first objective for Richardson is to separate himself from the second tier candidates so that he is ahead of all of them. And both in the polls and in fundraising he is starting to break ahead of Dodd, Biden et al.

It's still a long way to go and Richardson is clearly a distant fourth, but he also clearly is fourth.

I have been following "Big Bill" for years. He's always had a knack for saying the right things, but I've notcied one major change in the last few months. He is much more "polished" than before. You can still see some of his southwestern style under that polish, though, which might just add to his appeal over Hillary's machine-like persona and Obama's super-polish. Think 2000 Bush w/ language skills (oh, and proven experience and credientials).

Hopefully, the rest of the country will start to discover what we New Mexicans know - Bill is the most qualified candidate in the race. Fill in this experience chart for the other candidates:
FOREIGN POLICY - UN Ambassador
DIPLOMACY - The diplomat of choice when there is a problem,i.e., North Korea, Sudan, Iraq and others.
ENERGY - Secy. of Energy and Governor of an energy-producing state who believes in conservation.
IMMIGRATION - Governor of a border state dealing with the issue daily.
ADMINISTRATOR - Running a State Government, not just a Senate office.
AND MORE>

Bill Richardson may not have movie star good looks, but America isn't a movie. It's not only real, but it has real problems, problems that Bill Richardson is far and away, the best qualified to solve, not only by virture of his leadership, qualifications and diversity of experience, but because of his honesty, candor and truthfulness he will bring to the White House. Bill will unite our Country to solve problems at home, and re-establish our moral leadership and strength around the world.

Gov. Richardson will campaign in his style, which is face-to-face, conversing, listening, and impressing everyone he meets with his background and vision. This is the candidate who can go all the way to the White House.

Where do I go to find what the Governor stands for?

Bill Johnson | 04.03.07 08:38 PM

I can remember when Bill was a Congressman. Some little headline about negotiating release of a hostage here, hostages there, in Cuba, in the Sudan, in Saddam's Iraq. WHO IS THIS GUY?!!! Then slowly but steadily, he increased his exposure: Secretary of Energy, UN Ambassador (logical progression), Governor of New Mexico. David Brooks, a Republican said it well in the NY Times -- "he is, after all, the most experienced person running for President."

I like Bill's executive experience and his straight forward style. He has some great ideas for a forward looking energy policy and will figure a way to get us out of Iraq.

Go Bill!

Bill Richardson has more experience in administration, foreign policy, diplomacy and legislation than any other candidate in either party. He was right about the iraq war from the start. He was reelected as a Democratic governor in a Southwestern state by a large majority. He speaks fluent Spanish and his mother was Hispanic.

We do not need another president who neither has the required experience nor any interest in finding out what he/she does not know. Obama has no experience to speak of. He can afford to wait eight years and gain some. Hillary Clinton has six years in the Senate and has lived in the White House. She has no administrative experience. Edwards has six years as a Senator and has run for Vice President but no foreign policey experience or administrative experience. Richardson is the best qualaified of the Democratic candidates and we do not need another Republican at this time.

Unfortunately the media and voting puiblic are caught up in the popularity part of the political process. you see candidates every day on TV plying their craft of telling people what they want to hear and using lies of omission so people formulate assumptions. Gov. Richardson, while maybe better at this than most, has always shown me he is straightforward and cuts right to the chase. Is America ready for a woman president? Is America ready for a black president? Not only that, I think America will eventually realize here is a Hispanic man that has something to say and who has been proving this on a daily basis. Successful campaigns are built like successful businesses: one customer at a time. So for every positive blog and every David Brooks article, I hope there are that many converts to the Governor's campaign.

I'm a 90 year old political junkie,and as I wrote to my local paper,Letterbox, published Feb. 2nd: " I havn;t seen a better qualified candidate since I voted for FDR."Let's
all pitch in and help.

RICHARDSON WILL TAKE THEM DOWN

Gov. Richardson is so far and away the best candidate we have, Democrats would be INSANE if they didn't nominate him. Please, no unelectable Senate losers!!!! Only 2 senators ever elected directly out of the Senate (and sadly both passed away in office) A Senator or a Rep. with no executive experience is a game plan for disaster.

The GOP is petrified of the Gov. They know that if he gets the nom, they are finished!!! He is the only one they FEAR. Only a fool would jump on the Hillary and Barack bandwagons. Let the media jackals have their fun. They will NOT select our nominee!!! GO RICHARDSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

carrieyazel | 04.05.07 07:45 PM

Wake up, Media! Governor Richards, like so many of the previous comments state, is the most qualified for the job. His resume speaks for itself. It's the best of any. What's going to win him the nomination however sad it may seem is the $$$$$$$$. Richardson for President!

Trevor Ten Brink | 04.06.07 10:02 PM

by far Mr. Richardson has more expierence that the inflated Orack Obama. Unfortunately the news media has not given enough exposure to Mr. Richardson and instead have infalted Orack Obama. This is a diserves that the news media has done to the American people. I do hope that they do report the debates as they will be and not continue to inflate Orack Obama.
