Gresham Barrett Endorses Fred Thompson

COLUMBIA -- Ex-Sen. Fred Thompson's scored a major South Carolina endorsement: Rep. Gresham Barrett, who announced his support for Thompson in an e-mail distributed by Thompson supporters.

Said Barrett, according to the email: "Middle America can relate to Senator Thompson's common sense values. He is a statesman and a leader who appeals to a cross-section of American voters and I am excited about the prospects of his candidacy."

Also endorsing Thompson today: Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL) and Rep. Don Manzullo (R-IL).

Ex-MA Gov. Mitt Romney, among others, heavily courted Barrett. [MARC AMBINDER]

Hey AZGOPgal,

Is there any talk in the AZ GOP circles of forming a Thompson 2008 committee in AZ?

Check out www.DraftFredThompson.com and I believe you'll find more than one AZ friend. You'll find thousands of friends, actually. Not really familiar with this site, but if you click on my name below, it should take you there, I think.

Why does the author believe that Fred is a great "leader and statesmen"? How does he come to that conclusion? Fred has never governed, turned anything around or accomplished anythng politically significant! Why are we even courting this guy? Does anyone want to get anything accomplished in Washington?
We have serious and complex issues to resolve. Who ever we nominate, it needs to be someone who is exceptionally smart, experienced in both the political and private sector, experience in eliminating waste and experience taking something that is broken and fixing it. Fred maybe has one of those qualifications. We need someone better...please find someone for me who is going to do what needs to be done!

Fred may have never turned anything around, but he is not a career politician. He only wants to solve the problems and then retire. NOBODY who is a career politician is the answer because they are too worried about re election to ever get anything really done. I think he and Mike Huckabee are the only hope for visionary leadership in America.
