Hey, Big Talker
The Hotline timed the amount of time each '08er got to speak in last night's debate. We also counted the number of questions each GOPer received. Mitt Romney got the most questions and most talk time. Rudy Giuliani was second in both categories. However, John McCain got a good amount of questions but he was second from the bottom in how much he spoke. It was Sam Brownback who rounded out the Top Three:
Candidate Questions Time Mitt Romney 19 10 min 47 sec Rudy Giuliani 17 8 min 19 sec Sam Brownback 15 7 min 26 sec Mike Huckabee 15 7 min 23 sec Jim Gilmore 12 6 min 58 sec Tom Tancredo 15 6 min 48 sec Tommy Thompson 13 6 min 26 sec Ron Paul 13 6 min 20 sec John McCain 16 6 min 7 sec Duncan Hunter 12 5 min 53 sec

Of course Romeny got the most questions and the most time, because Chris Matthews was incapable of doing anything other than going left to right. He kept starting with Romney, and wouldn't keep him to the time limit. Could someone please tell the debate moderators that if you start with one person on one question, that person should go last the next time? It was so annoying. Matthews was a terrible moderator. The other two people who asked questions were much better.

I liked Matthews questions and he did a good job of keeping people to their time limit. But yes, the left to right thing was extrenely annoying and quite unfair to those on the other end.

I agree with Kathy that Matthews should have rotated the order of questions instead of going from left to right repeatedly. That being said, Romney also had a slight disadvantage because he always had to speak extemporaneously, whereas Brownback and Huckabee were in prime debating locations. Overall, I was extremely impressed with Romney's performance. He had a firm grasp of the issues, was eloquent, and more than anyone else displayed an aura of being presidential.

Yeah, and of course if Romney would've bombed like Giuliani did no one would be complaining. I'm sure if Romney would have had 2 less questions he probably wouldn't have had that good of a night as well, or if Giuliani were to have had 19 questions he would've won. Yeah right.
I'll admit, the format was all over the place and Matthews had his own agenda on a few questions and some questions were just downright stupid. They need to get rid of half of them and have a real debate.

Duncan Hunter was not asked 12 questions during the debate. The open questions stopped just before him in most instances, and he was not provided with an opportunity to answer. I counted three actual questions directed exclusively to Duncan Hunter, not 12.
