Just Noticing...
Suddenly, conservatives don't hate the French after all.

Romney didn't get the memo!
"It seems that Europe leads Americans in this way of thinking," Romney told the crowd of more than 5,000. "In France, for instance, I'm told that marriage is now frequently contracted in seven-year terms where either party may move on when their term is up. How shallow and how different from the Europe of the past."- Washington Post, Sunday, May 6, 2007; Page A04

Most of us will withhold judgement until we see progress.

I do find it amusing that this election is being reported as some radical break with France's past 12 years. Chirac and Sarcozy are members of the same party. That Royal allowed Sarcozy to run as an agent of change suggests an inept campaign on her part, and that the media continues to act as though this is some new beginning shows laziness.
The main story to me is that, although the French don't like the conservatives, they like the Socialists and their solutions even less. I'd be interested to see whether a Blair or Clinton emerges among the French socialists advocating a "3rd way."
