Boehner: Immigration Bill Is "Piece Of Shit"

House Minority Leader John Boehner, speaking to a private gathering of Republican activists last night, called the Senate's immigration compromise bill a "piece of shit" but said that he had promised President Bush earlier in the day that he would let his teeth be a barrier to such thoughts in public.

Boehner spoke last night at a small reception for the Republican Rapid Responders on Capitol Hill.

"I promised the President today that I wouldn't say anything bad about ... this piece of shit bill," he said, according to two attendees.

Earlier in the day, Boehner released a statement saying that "The Senate agreement appears to recognize that additional border security measures and more effective immigration law enforcement must come before any other issues are addressed, but I have significant concerns about parts of the Senate proposal -- particularly provisions that would reward illegal immigrants who have consistently broken our laws."

A senior Republican official said yesterday that while the chances of the bill, which opens pathways to citizenship for most of the U.S.'s 12 million illegal immigrants, are "50/50" in the House and that the White House would spend its time lobbying Democrats, rather than Republicans, to achieve a majority.

Yesterday, the Senate beat back an amendment by Sen. Byron Dorgan that would have scrapped the bill's new guest worker program. The defeat of that effort was interpreted as a sign that a solid majority of Senators are prepared to support the bill's main tenets, for now.

What happens when they hear from constituents over Memorial Day is unknown and unknowable.

A Boehner spokesman was not able to comment.

Boehner's tendency towards candor occasionally irks his staff, a fact that Boehner brought up with last night's audience. In 2006, Boehner called an idea put forth by then. Sen. Maj. Leader Bill Frist to provide Americans with a $100 rebate on gasoline "stupid." [MARC AMBINDER]

Being a slave to Bush has been a trademark of all republicans for the last six years. These people neither have any morals nor any convictions to stand up to Bush. They all, including, the presidential candidates, are the "yes men" of Bush clan.

I like the man's candor. The Retired Petty Officer is also noted for this. And it really is a piece of S***.

Less talk, more deportations.

People don't like to use the word "conspiracy" but it's totally obvious that not closing our borders and not deporting the illegals is a conspiracy between our government and the Mexican government and big multi-national corporations. It goes AGAINST the will of the American People and works against our overall safety, happiness and freedom.

angus macpherson | 05.23.07 09:22 AM

At least he is saying what the majority of us are thinking

Grumpy_Penguin | 05.23.07 09:22 AM

Never heard of Boehner in my life, but those two comments alone have instantly put him in the running for my favorite plain-speak politician since Harry Truman. Seeing him use "Horseshit" and "Stupid" to describe two bills/proposals that are *precisely* horseshit and stupid is truly a beautiful thing.

Got to do some research on this guy. I think he's my new hero.

John Olsen | 05.23.07 09:29 AM

Can someone in our congress tell me why they are willing to reward lawbreakers? John Boehners' interpretation of this bill is correct!

James Mowrey | 05.23.07 09:30 AM

OK..if it walks like a duck etc.

chuck | 05.23.07 09:30 AM

If the bill doesn't pass, this will be a triumph of racism and bigotry.
I hope Billy Bobb loses...

cohen | 05.23.07 09:31 AM

The open border issue is killing and will kill this country for one simple reason; the taxpayers cannot support such a huge influx of people bleeding the system at one time. Twelve million is a bogus number, it is closer to twenty (20) than twelve. Make book on it. Politicians pandering for votes, what's new.

Eddie | 05.23.07 09:31 AM

I can assure you many Democrats in the House share Republican Boehner's feelings about this bill, largely due to the guest worker provision. I fully expect the Black Caucus to hold solid against this bill, along with some Blue Dogs and most Republicans.

At this point it is DOA, and Boehner probably is on solid ground telling this group how he feels.

jason2134 | 05.23.07 09:34 AM

He's a man of his words...

joestocksup | 05.23.07 09:35 AM

Both the GOP & Dem's are liars. There was no enforcement after Reagans 1986 Amnesty. Until we see the head of Tyson foods in prison for 5 years, I don't believe anything they say. The bill is Amnesty.

steve | 05.23.07 09:37 AM

The immigration bill stinks. All you need to know is that the Democrats(traitors) and the Republicans(wussies) did this legislation in the wee hours. Call your reps to complain.

Rob | 05.23.07 09:38 AM

We have no border control. Yet, billions on Iraq. Wanna spend some billions? SHUT THE BORDER except for at specific points where people can cross LEGALLY. "Secure" the border means nothing to these people. These are not Republicans, but people selling the soul of America to Mexicans, who think they are the rightful owners of Arizona and the southern USA. These people dont care about terrorism. If they did, it wouldnt be possible for terrorists to just walk across the southern border illegally with the 12 miilion Mexicans who have already done so. What a joke. WHAT A JOKE!!!

moose | 05.23.07 09:39 AM

Accurate accessment of what is surely the biggest piece of excrement to float down the Potomac in a long time. The Republicans are tied to a sinking ship called the Bush administration. When will they stand up, speak up and say "no" to this foolishness?

russ | 05.23.07 09:40 AM

In that case, I choose racism and bigotry over fascism and communism.

Jim | 05.23.07 09:40 AM

This is further proof that behind our backs and in closed door sessions, our government has sold us out! John Boehner has it absolutely right. The North American Union Treaty is being implemented and we are powerless to do anything about it. Well, not exactly powerless. It is high time that Americans kick some !#@* in Washington and remove these elitist morons from office by whatever means are at our disposal. We do have a constitution, right?

I am ready for the change.

Carl Swensson | 05.23.07 09:41 AM

I'm Liberal and I completely disagree with the vast majority of conservative platforms...

...That being said, I *ABSOLUTELY* agree that this bill is wrong for this country. I can't accept that Mexico will heap it's problems to this degree on the US. It's unfair and irresponsible.

Fix the problems in your country! You can't send 20+ million of your poor to another country. That's a dereliction of duty on the Mexican governments part. There's a word for what Mexico is currently doing to the US... it's called *RAPE*.

50 years from now, the southwest may very well be part of Mexico again at the rate things are going.

Eric | 05.23.07 09:42 AM

I think John Boehner got it right. We deported over 220,000 last year. That is a good start. Effective immediately we should give the illegals implants as we do our pets and then deport them. If we catch them coming back they go straight to prison.

George | 05.23.07 09:42 AM

Yes this bill is a Piece of Shit! Flush it down the toilet and Enforce the existing immigration laws we have. Take away the Piece of shit immitation IDs the government allows these criminal aliens to work with. Make them follow the rule of law not by their mob rules mentality. Take there welcome matt away from them and Fine the hell out of employers that allow them to work on their premises. This will end this scourge of Shit.

Leonard McElhannon | 05.23.07 09:45 AM

How many people will read this, now that it's on the Drudge Report?

Rick James | 05.23.07 09:45 AM

Illegals in south Florida are saying that no matter what bill passes they won't bother with folling its provisions but will stay here anyway.

Stephen | 05.23.07 09:45 AM

To Sami (and anyone else who agrees with this idiotic line of thinking)- the President, no matter what party he is from, is the "head" of that party. He is by definition the highest ranking and most powerful member of that party. When Pres. Clinton was in office, he was the leader of the Democratic Party. So most (not all)of the Democrats followed his agenda for the most part. When Bush, Sr and Reagan were in the office, ditto for the Republicans.

I guarantee you that more Repubs have stood against Pres Bush than Dems stood up against Pres Clinton. Were they "yes men" of Clinton, or was it just that they were doing things you agreed with? So that automatically mean they had, what did you say "morals and convictions". So it must be that anyone who does what you believe in is moral and just, and if they don't, they're not.

Do us all a favor, and publish your official list of what is moral and what's not, so we'll all know how to live our lives from now on. Thanks!

Ross | 05.23.07 09:46 AM

First, Sami: I think he and us other republicans ARE disagreeing with Bush so kick your blinders off and look around.

Second, being from Georgia I have the distinct pleasure in saying that my senators helped craft this abomination. Chambliss and Isakson will be voted out based on this bill alone. They, like other law makers have failed to understand the top priority of their constituents.

In 1986 after the amnesty we were told that the act would never happen again. Yet, we are faced with the similar circumstances. I agree with Fred Thompson. We have evidence and strong reason that there is no personal trust on this. Washington has now gotten itself into a pickle. It's up to us to make sure they don't weasel out of their responsibility!

Bo | 05.23.07 09:46 AM

Boehner is right.

Adrianna | 05.23.07 09:46 AM

Wake up America before it's too late. As a baby boomer who will retire in a few years I can tell you---our age group is huge and is going to put a large burden on the economy. Add 12 million illegals, give THEM government benefits, more coming across the border every day, and you'll see this country go down the tubes.

bill | 05.23.07 09:47 AM

cohen, you're an idiot. Put down the cool-aid and listen: this has nothing to do with racism and bigotry and this has everything to do with the security and future of this country.

The truth of the matter is, and what this administration and congress don't understand: WE DON'T NEED IMMIGRATION REFORM!!! We simply need to enforce what's already law! The only thing broken about immigration is the lack of attention paid to the employers of illegal immigrants. If more employers were heavily fined or jailed due to breaking existing labor laws, there would be no illegal immigration.

Rich | 05.23.07 09:47 AM

People need to vote against any Senator or Representative that does not uphold the rule of law and votes for this garbage. Every time amnesty has come up they make new laws that they never enforce. If they enforced the ones they made in 1986 we would not have this problem today. The guest worker part is the good part- the citizenship for law breakers is the bad part. We need the labor but not the workers on the public dole- The are breaking our healthcare system, education facilities and now congress wants to give them Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare- they will destroy our current middle class by taxing us to pay for their cheap labor. If you are pro U.S.first you are called a bigot or racist. We had better put American's interest ahead of compassion for the illegals.

Nancy Naus | 05.23.07 09:48 AM

You can change the words, but you can't hide the stench! By, the way, DEPORT PEDRO..and DORA too.

Tom | 05.23.07 09:48 AM

Isn't it ironic that we have NO rights in Mexico and other Latin American countries, yet is OK for illegals to come up and get our hard-earned tax dollars for free. It is OUTRAGEOUS that Congress would even consider an amnesty bill to reward criminals.

In my part of Missouri, illegals are taking advantage of every government program possible. My sister is a county health nurse and the moms of anchor-babies-to-be are getting the WIC program for free. Most of the illegals in our area are bringing drugs and crime. They definitely are NOT the innocent angels Bush preaches about.

Fed Up | 05.23.07 09:48 AM

Republicans and America will lose if this bill passes.

Chris | 05.23.07 09:49 AM

Interesting that if you oppose the proposed legislation you are racist!!!! What about folks who obeyed the laws and came here legally? If our immigration laws don't have to be honored, what about the others? Who gets to pick and choose, each of us individually, which ones we would like to obey and which ones we will not obey? I think that's called anarchy! The problem needs to be fixed. Not only a fence, not only return of those who came here illegally, but 'carrot and stick' provisions for those countries whose citizens are coming here illegally.

George | 05.23.07 09:50 AM

The natives are getting restless.....the "shit head" politicians better watch their asses, this reminds me of the start of the French Revolution where they cut off all the nobilities heads....

doom | 05.23.07 09:51 AM

How many other countires in the world can millions of illegal immigrants walk in to, find a job, use it's schools, hospitals, etc., pay no taxes, convince politicians to have everything printed in their homelands language and then expect they have a "legal" right to citizenship. The rest of the world is laughing at what pushovers the American public is. I don't see China offering North Koreans amnesty, citizenship, jobs, etc....they're hoping they can convince the US to drop economic aid on this regime just like we're ready to do for Mexico's NO.1 export. Our biggest mistake was exporting jobs to China...should have sent them south of the border to keep them there. Why might you ask because a group of iilegal immigrants high on meth committed a string of burglaries and I lost family items dating back to the Civil War. Irreplaceable and 2 of the pieces of s*** got probation and 30 days in jail because our jails our overcrowded in Los Angeles. The ringleader got 2 years state prison, lucky if he serves 1 year and they said, "he should be deported after that, but here are no guarantees becuase INS doesn't always get the information when it's time to let them go." Yes, I'm pissed. Mexican elites, along with ours don't give a f*** about the ramifications, not their money , just a way to pat themselves on the back thinking they've solved something with a piece of paper.

Frank | 05.23.07 09:51 AM

If this comes to a vote, whomever votes for the bill, should be drummed-out of office. It is time for the politians to listen to the constiuents and not the special interests. Kick'em out and enforce the laws on the books, and enforce the borders.

Kev | 05.23.07 09:51 AM

Cohen,
How is wanting our government to enforce the current lawas and expecting people to obey our laws racist and bigoted? Is it your belief that certain races are naturally law breakers and our expectation that they obey the law is racist?

How many people in the US cheat on their taxes? Do you hear any Senators seeking to prevent the IRS from enforcing the tax law?

limited government | 05.23.07 09:54 AM

NavyDog | 05.23.07 09:54 AM

You can't blame the republicans for "this piece of S**t".. They have been "gutless" for the past 10 years. The democrats have been "dumping" on us while the republicans have just been "holding their noses" and being "Mr. Nice Guys". Sen. Boehner's statement may be a sign that this one has "come to his senses". Now we will see if this Min. leader has enough "guts" to LEAD.

Ward | 05.23.07 09:56 AM

Thansk to real representitives of the American people like Boehner this country may stand a chance.

Lets keep our Borders safe and secure. There has never been a problem in people migratign to the US from all parts of the world in an orderly manner, why should we open the border to Mexico.

Edd | 05.23.07 09:56 AM

I think everyone should contact thier Senators & State Representatives & let them know how they feel about this 'Amnesty' for illegals. I think we should vote them out of office if they let this go through, it will kill the country keeping these people!

Shirley | 05.23.07 09:57 AM

The majority isn't thinking this. These are scare white people.

BruntLIVE | 05.23.07 09:57 AM

Any bill with Kennedy's name on it, or support is a piece of $#!+... No guest workers, no birthright citizenship for offspring of NONCITIZENS, whether they're illegal aliens or here on a visa (diplomatic, student, tourist, work, or "permanent residency"). A permanent residency visa should only last 7-10 years, then you go home or apply for Citizenship, if they don't want citizenship, then go home (don't come back). Oh, yeah, no bringing the village here either... only immediate family (no parents, siblings, cousins)

Tom | 05.23.07 09:59 AM

Oh lighten up, Speech-Nazis! His candor is hilarious and honest, even though vulgar!

Aubrey | 05.23.07 09:59 AM

Well..I guess this just goes to show that Ron Paul is right. Pull the troops out of the middle east except for Pakistan (which is where Bin Laden is..if we don't have any qualms about tearing apart a country because we THINK there are WMD's there, we shouldn't have any qualms about doing the same where we KNOW where the guy who ringmaster 9/11 was), and have them guard our borders. Close the "run and gun" option of border crossings, implement a strict north and south physical border, and eradicate NAFTA, etc for a more free trade, laisez-faire style. All this immigration bill is is to solidify with illegal votes the administration's choice of successor.
Ousting 12+ million illegals would sure cause our crime rate to suffer a big hit.

Dan Forthwright | 05.23.07 09:59 AM

Bad language?! How does bad language compare with the intentional destruction of the the U.S.? STOP calling it America! The North AMERICAN Union is THEE INTENT here! History reminds us of the Fall of Rome, the invasion of the barbarians. Rome didn't offer Welfare, overcrowd their schools, pay their medical bills, and call their babies, ANCHOR BABIES!! On 9-12, 2001, U.S. citizens were ONE, we need that UNIFIED feeling NOW & GET RID of Dems & Republicans!!! The parties are OVER!!!!!

Larry | 05.23.07 09:59 AM

All of you who like to pull the race card and tag everyone against illegal immigration as a bigot really need to find another platform to debate off of.

This has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with our security as a nation. Contrary to popular belief, the terrorists who are out to get us are not stupid at all. If poverty-stricken, uneducated illegals can get past our borders, don't you think individuals who's sole goal is to attack America can get through?

We have an estimated 12 million illegals in our borders. That's 12 million people that we have no idea who they are, where they are or what they're doing. School's don't want random people walking through their hallways and I'm sure you wouldn't want random people walking through your own home. So why is it okay for our country?

On top of all that, it's a potential health issue. Because we have no idea who is crossing our borders we also don't know what kind of diseases are entering our country. I've read in the news of cases of TB starting to pop up around our country. Tuberculosis, a disease we pretty much had taken care of here in the States. And if that weren't enough, one strand was immune to any antibiotic we have today.

The issue of illegal immigration doesn't just reside along our Southern border. Our Northern border is just as bad, if not worse. This is not an issue of race, but one of national security and health.

Christo | 05.23.07 10:00 AM

Lease border security to China and let them keep what they catch.

HR | 05.23.07 10:01 AM

What I think is so bizarre is the backwards way some of these Republicans have in understanding why their party (mine, BTW) is losing seats. It isn't because they don't pander to illegals etc. enough. It's because they don't "dance with the one who brung them."

Dian | 05.23.07 10:03 AM

Boehner calls it like I and other conservatives see this bill. This does not fly at all with mainstream America, at all. No matter what the polls say. I won't lose my heritage for this President.

Doug | 05.23.07 10:03 AM

Darn tootin. These crazy fellas lettin all these illegal folks in. Guess if they can get this passed, a lot of those illegal folks will be showin' their thanks at the poorly run polls come november. I'm sorry sir..it's unconstitutional to ask to see your registration card. Protectin' the wrong privacies if you ask me.

vfarnsworth | 05.23.07 10:04 AM

Forget the 12 million figure...thanks to the Family Reunification Act, illegals will be able to bring in their families once they themselves get their amnesty. And this act is not restricted to the immediate family, but extends to all family members (cousins, uncles, aunts, etc). Just what we need...more unskilled, uneducated masses feeding from the public teat. How the hell can we absorb these kinds of numbers? When will we as taxpayers finally do something about it?

Disgruntled | 05.23.07 10:04 AM

This bs has to be overturned or this will be mexico within 5 years ,

usa today | 05.23.07 10:06 AM

I love this man! If only we could vote out everyone who supported this piece of shit legislation and start over with some real people. Most of our politicians are not even human. They spew out bullshit and think we voters are so stupid that we'll eat it up. We need Ross Perot and Tom Tancredo and some plains-speaking business people to go to Washington and flush the toilet. Then they can roll up their sleeves and get down to business, while cutting out all the crap. I am a FORMER Republican -- now I'm an independent, thanks to George Bush, John McCain and other losers out for their own gain.

Martha | 05.23.07 10:06 AM

This is NOT an 'amnesty' bill. It is a SURRENDER bill - a total capitulation to the illegal alien invaders!

The body snatchers have taken over Capitol hill and replaced Americans in the Congress.

PJ | 05.23.07 10:06 AM

Face it...Political correctness will kill us all, and unfortunately these politicians will say whatever they think will keep them or get them into office. Remember November? The Dems said that they would lower gas prices, getout of Iraq, yada yada yada. The government doesn't control out borders, they don't enforce out laws unless it's good for them, they have no control over the price of gas...it's all "horseshit" I don't care if you are leaning left or right, our government is run by idiots. And if you have any sense at all, you can't blame it all on the President, look at Congress and the Senates behavior from both sides...SELF-SERVING, IDIOTS!

One other thing...If you're a Celeb., or illegal alien, you don't have to obey our laws, only US citizens do!

sickntired | 05.23.07 10:07 AM

I'm a child of Democrats but I've voted Republican all my life. I NEVER thought I'd be saying that I'm in favor of impeachment of a Republican President, but I am now. Bush is not a USA American. He is a Mexico American. Begin the impeachment proceedings.

julie | 05.23.07 10:07 AM

The incumbents are essentially engaged in the
treasonable overthrow of the government. The President's secret agreement with Mexico is a caloused disregard for America and an afront to the American people. Foreign policy is a disgrace
as is the micromanaging of the undeclared war.

Impeachment of the President, recall of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, is in order.

That bill is a piece of shit, and will not pass.
Among the very few responsibilities of government mentioned in our constitution, defending our borders is one, and they have not done so.
Just like drugs passing in to the USA, they come because there is a demand for them by greedy or inefficient businesses.
Stop the greedy from hiring them, and a lot of the problem will go away.
To all those who feel sorry for the poor Mexicans, I say: Would you have four kids if you made $4 per day?
The U.S.A. is a safety net for Mexico, and they will never get their act together south of the border if we don't give them the "tough love" and make them solve their own problems.

s.c. dude | 05.23.07 10:14 AM

Boehner's analysis of the immigration bill, specifically that it is a piece of S**T, is AN UNDERSTATEMENT!

Jorge Bush has lost his mind. Why promise him anything?

Ed | 05.23.07 10:16 AM

This comment says alot about the government. Even though the ranking house member thinks the bill is very bad, and very bad for America he will not speak out against the bill. If he feels this strongly about the bill he should be yelling it from the roof tops and gathering his party to fight this bill. When are the GOP and deafocrats going to learn. Bush is NOT running for reelection. Get out and fight for yor base and for America Mr. Boehner. This is an issue that transcends party. This is the deciding vote on what America will be in 20 years. Will we be a strong nation of laws or will we be a hedge podge of nation states, who decide which laws to enforce. Washington is fast becoming irelevent for this very reason.

Racist? No. In fact the only racist group in this debate is the one that makes no bones about actually calling itself "National Council of La Raza." You know - "the race"? That actually openly advocates the "reconquista"? At least they're not trying to hide it, I guess.

thud | 05.23.07 10:19 AM

I totally expect Democrats to sell out the country, Kennedy has been this for decades, but the dolts in Mass are oblivious. The republicans.. ridiculous, such vigoe in protecting Iraq yet nothing for our country.
Disgusting... Dem's bringing in a racist group like La Ra to have a voice for the American people.
More disgusting... Republicans actually agreeing to be in a room with this group of Anti-Americans.
Most disgusting... Actually having groups like La Raza and Democrats think the bill is too harsh instead of being greatful they were given this much, especially the opportunity to stay here.
This is by far the most disgusting display of politics ever. Not one group represented the American people, just appeasers and one world dreamers. This proves that now that all but a few politicians haven't a clue and believe in making us a socialist mediocrity. I am sick of Republicans seeling us out for money, which is what this is, and Democrats who just want ruin America because they believe it sucks and that Democracy is a bad idea. Democrats, epecially blacks need to wake up and smell the coffee because this hurts you too. Pandering for illegal votes that in the end you will pay for. Arggggg....

jb | 05.23.07 10:21 AM

First.there is NO majority of Americans who want this bill..so where is it coming from??

They say we can't kick them out...but why not create disincentives instead of incentives...it may take 20 years, but it took that long for them to come....They need to go back and apply for legal citizenship like everybody else. If you need a guest worker, then it should be a GUEST...3 months with documentation and an ID card.

If this social engineering continues, we will have 100 million of the lowest economic/educational sector from Mexico in the southwest. We may as well simply annex Mexico and be done with it.

.the war on terror is bullshit, otherwise our borders would be sealed.

Ted | 05.23.07 10:22 AM

Lawbreakers are lawbreakers. The illegals will not leave unless they are detained and deported. You can pass whatever new laws you wish, they will not respect them! Wake up America! They have already used my social security number over 100 times. This sucks!

Roger Cotton | 05.23.07 10:22 AM

Isn't it hilarious how out of touch the Washington elite are. Gosh, John Boehner used the S word. Amazingly enough, most real Americans, you know, the ones that don't fly around in private jets and buy Carbon Credits, actually use that horrible vulgar word from time to time. To think those that are offended want to be the ones who defend our country against the likes of China, Iran, Syria et al. I ask this one simple question: "When the last real man left Washington DC, did he turn the lights out?"

sickntired | 05.23.07 10:26 AM

Boehner is right. Ever had to sit in a 1st Grade Play and listen to the Little Red Hen in Spanish? We have to in Texas. These people don't want to assimilate, they just want a check. Get ready for it in the rest of the US if this passes. We don't even have control of the border to stop the other millions that will want to get here if this passes.

We can't support our own poor, why do we want to to take on an estimated 12-20 million more. Remember - this is a bunch of career politician posturing for elections and NEW voters. Don't let them sell us out, contact them daily to let them know what you think. Aske them for the fence.

Todd | 05.23.07 10:26 AM

I hope everyone takes note of how their representatives vote on this issue. EVERY congress person who supports this bill needs to be voted out of office next election.

Robert Dwight | 05.23.07 10:28 AM

The people in favor of this bill use two main arguments:

1 - There are too many illegal aliens to identify and deport, so we should "bring them into the open" by legalizing them. That is as rediculous as legalizing drugs because millions ignore the drug laws. Failing to enforce the current statutes because doing so is "difficult" is wrong ... and no excuse to change these lawbreakers' status.

2 - It's "racist" to oppose open borders / immigration at will from Mexico and points south. Why should we permit unscreened, largely uneducated refugees from other corrupt governments / economies to flood into our country? It IS a security issue (we need to know who's here, and why.) It's also an economic issue - rather than the ecomomic boost the illegals claim to provide. These illegal entrants place increasing demands on our health care, educational, and social support systems (without paying into them.)

Secure the borders, and enforce the immigration laws. Absolutely, legal immigration should be encouraged. The illegal flood must be stopped.

Mike | 05.23.07 10:28 AM

He needs to stand up and call Bush a piece of shit. I say this as someone who voted for him twice. I long for the day when when at least one candidate could be said to be conservative.

BJ | 05.23.07 10:29 AM

The sad reality is that for every Republican who would follow GW off of a cliff there are Democrats who call up Moveon.org and Hollywood and find out what to do. The classic is not wanting to do a debate sponsored by the Black Congressional Caucus because gasp! it was going to be on FoxNews. I am sure those who want to kill us really fear those studly Democrats.

"Did the last real man who left Washington DC turn the light off?"

Hubie | 05.23.07 10:29 AM

Indeed the whole idea is a piece of %#@$. why are we going to reward law breakers? Send them home, after all they keep saying they hate us and their home is great. Make everyone happy DEPORT ILLEGALS.

SILVIA

Silvia | 05.23.07 10:32 AM

To those who hide behind the cheap bromides of "This is a country of immigrants," remind them that NO, this is a country of LEGAL immigrants. To those who barf up some misty imagery of the Statue of Liberty to defend their lies, point out that our forebears entered the country under her watchful eyes, not snuck and cralwed in behind her butt.

And to those who call us racists and bigots because we will not yield to the ugly invasion and destruction of America by Mexico, proudly embrace their taunts. If loving my English speaking, and English common law based country is racist and bigoted, then by god I am as proud a Racist and Bigot as I am an American.

Tommy | 05.23.07 10:32 AM

As a fellow Georgian Republican, I agree with Bo, our 2 senators (with a little s) sold us out and need to find a new job in the private sector. This is especially true for Johnny 'go along to get along" Isakson. Time to form an alternative Party that listens to the people and looks out for our interest.

Tom | 05.23.07 10:32 AM

Secure the border and stop rewarding criminals please.

Chris | 05.23.07 10:33 AM

The people who use bigot and racist tags, are taking the easy out.
Illegal aliens have BROKEN US laws.

Unfortunately, our "leaders" never have enforced these laws making the situation worse.

This is the greatest country in the world and citizenship is earned, not given away.

No, they are not all the president's yes men. Tancredo, Hunter, & Paul have taken heat for opposing this p of s, and all its ancestors, too.
Buck the elites & their tools, the media, and get behind one of these guys.

charlemagne's kin | 05.23.07 10:34 AM

The problem is not just the Mexican illegals it is all illegals. We legaly allow 1 Million people into the US every year. There are 5 Million people born in the world every year. If we keep allowing millions into the country every year we will have to put walls up just to hold the people from falling into the ocean. Allowing 12 or 20 million people to commit felonies and then forgive them is the most stupid thing we could do. We need to stop the "born in the US is an automatic citizenship pass". When a baby is born he/she is a citizen of the parents country. Seal the boarders now before more Terrorist come here!!

sharpeagle | 05.23.07 10:34 AM

I'm part of the small group calling for amnesty for all aliens in the US now, and essentially open borders. There are probably a dozen differant ideas trying to comprimise how I feel with how the neocon's and the Unions and 50 other people feel. Listen lawmakers, SHUT THE BORDER OR OPEN IT UP- THERE IS NO MIDDLE GROUND HERE, BRO'S.

michael mcdaniel | 05.23.07 10:34 AM

Boehner is right on target. The new bill is crap.
Expecting compliance to a new law from illegal aliens that depends on their honesty is ludicrous. Illegals in un-American communities who have sneaked across the border, purchased fraudulent green cards, fake Social Security cards, fake driver’s licenses and fraudulently used our welfare systems, schools and hospitals and evaded local, state and federal taxes and perpetrated every serious crime on the books will not be inclined to step forward and identify themselves as possible deportees.

John Bonus | 05.23.07 10:35 AM

Senator Boehner, how we Republican Conservatives would love to have you in California. We have no representation. My disappointment is that you promised the President that you would not criticize this sell-out of the country in public. We need representatives that will speak out against this travesty. Please do not be a rubber stamp for the President when he is dead wrong.

Bob Williams

Bob Williams | 05.23.07 10:35 AM

Clearly SOMETHING has to be done other than enforcement of the border on existing laws.

If not, mexican immigrants will just start boating up to Canada and coming in on the other side.

Read “How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico”
Science Christian Monitor,
July 6, 2006
by John Dillin

President Eisenhower had a higher percentage of illegal aliens than we have now. He created a Pink Card which was issued to Mexicans at US Consultate offices in Mexico. They used green buses with white letters of INS and went out the fields and if a farm worker didn’t have a Pink Card then he was put on the bus for deportation. Eisenhower’s plan used buses, and trains and ships. Read this article! This worked before and would work again. They deported 50,000 from CA and AZ, and 10 times that amount of illegals self deported. They picked up 80,000 in TX and nearly 10 times that amount self deported. He sent soldiers to guard the border with SOS orders.

“The Patrol veterans say enforcement could also be aided by a legalized guest-worker program that permits Mexicans to register in their country for temporary jobs in the US. Eisenhower's team ran such a program. It permitted up to 400,000 Mexicans a year to enter the US for various agriculture jobs that lasted for 12 to 52 weeks.”

Here are the Eisenhower points in summary:

A guest worker card issued in Mexico at an American Consulate office

Registration for specific farms while at the Consulate’s office

Only Mexicans

For migratory work

Temporary jobs

Up to 400,000

Agriculture jobs only

Lasting only from 12 to 52 weeks

I have been a Republican for 59 years, but today am ashamed of the a-holes masquerading as my party leaders. A pox on them all.

walter | 05.23.07 10:38 AM

While it's rare that I agree with a politician, I trust that being in that line of work, he probably knows ‘ship’ when he sees it. Who are they kidding? Are they really that stupid or do they think we are? This immigration bill is just another vote buying scheme and both parties are guilty of:

1) significantly downplaying the real numbers of illegal’s presently in this country
2) ignoring the wide open borders that will (as in the past), allow millions upon millions more illegal’s to rush our country in hopes of the greatest giveaway in the history of the USA
3) conveniently leaving out the details of what it will cost the American tax payers when these interlopers start using up all the money in THE TAX PAYERS social security retirement fund…
a Supplemental Security Income
b Legal Aid
c Medicaid
d Food stamps
e Welfare (and other tax payer funded services meant for AMERICAN tax payers)

4) Not closing the anchor baby loop-hole that has allowed hundreds of thousands of illiterate criminals to stay in America
5) Dereliction of their duty to provide for the common defense (our national security)

Or have people forgotten that a terrorist plot was just uncovered that was to storm a Military base in New Jersey to kill hundreds of our soldiers? Have people also forgotten that three of those terrorists involved in the plot also came across the border illegally? And those three, along with God knows how many other terrorists who have slithered across our border, would suddenly be on the road to citizenship under these greedy and arrogant politician’s schemes.

Here's a simple plan (waiting for additional caveats):
1) BUILD A TALL AND LONG FENCE
2) SEND ALL THE ILLEGAL'S HOME
3) ANYONE WISHING TO COME HERE AS A GUEST WORKER WILL DO SO LEGALLY
4) INCREASE THE NUMBER OF FOREIGNERS ALLOWED TO COME HERE UNDER A VISA
5) VOTE OUT ANY POLITICIAN WHO TRIES TO GIVE THESE CRIMINALS A FREE PASS
6) EXPORT TED ‘MY CAR DON”T FLOAT’ KENNEDY TO MEXICO

i-live-2-ride | 05.23.07 10:40 AM

I am sick of all this talking and no action being taken on immigration. The president is wrong on this issue and has lost most of my support. I will be more careful in the next election to know more about the candidate that I am going to vote for. I am disappointed with the Republican party, of which I am a part of. We better get a new leader with some balls when it comes to the real issues of our nation: borders, language and culture. (thank you Dr. Savage)

Boehner is right. I propose they reprint the bill on cheap toilet paper and use it in the Senate crapper. The polls have shown the public disdane for amnesty and guest-work. However, I predict that the Senate will force this down our throats in favor of the corporations that run this country.

Here's a fun fact: 70% of the babies born at Parkland County Hospital in Dallas are born to ILLEGAL MEXICAN MIGRANTS, and you and I are paying for it!!!

Cut off the jobs, they'll go home. It is said there are 12 to 20 million of them here, if half of them drive cars that means 6 to 10 million more cars on the road, sucking up gas. No wonder we are paying $3.20 a gallon for gas. So add that to the cost to us for schools, health care, welfare, etc., etc., we are already paying.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!!

Vicki | 05.23.07 10:48 AM

I have been familiar with John Boehner for quite some time and have engaged in several exchanges with him through the conservative blog site, RedState.com. His straightforwardness is not limited to the issues regarding illegal immigration and the "amnesty" solution proposed by the senate, nor does he reserve his opinions to "private gatherings" as he is known to air his mind openly on the senate floor.
However, while pointing out the worthlessness of the immigration bill, it might serve Boehner well to examine his decisions in appointing Ken Calvert to the Appropriations Committee, and continuing to show support of Calvert even though Calvert is under investigation for a shady land deal in(which he paid $550,000 for 4.3 acres of land in 2005 and then used his capacity to procure earmarks in order to secure $8 million for an interstate exchange on the property, which he then sold for a $450,000.00 profit... and then there is the little matter of his arrest for solicitation of a prostitute that same year...
Mr. Boehner... While I appreciate your capacity to point out the stupidity in an immigration bill, it would be nice to see you take an equally passionate stance in monitoring the ethics (or lack thereof) on your own side of the isle.
Consistency, not cherry-picking, is the key.

1. He's being honest.

2. He's absolutely right.

3. He's not afraid to cut through the b.s. plaguing our Congress.

Alfred C. Martino | 05.23.07 10:53 AM

Any Senator/Congressman that votes for this bill should be voted out next time around. This bill is NOT good for American and is certainly not good for Republicans. CALL/E-MAIL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES IN WASHINGTON and tell them to "JUST SAY NO!"

bonnie | 05.23.07 10:53 AM

It seems very odd that a issue as crucial to the American people as illegal immigration is being pushed through. I don't understand why such an important decision is not in the hands of the American people. Our Senators and congressmen no longer are representing what the majority of the population wants (NO AMNESTY). If they are supposed to serve what the American people want then whats the harm in letting us vote on the issue? I'll tell you why... because they KNOW it's not what the majority want. I don't want more low wage workers coming here, depressing wages, raising crime, having anchor babies, getting social security, and living off welfare. We are trying to get people off welfare.. why the hell do we want to import another countries problems. The illegals need to go home, and force their own government to change for the good of the people. Not come to another country and make demands. We need secure borders, common language, and a defined culture.

Dana | 05.23.07 10:53 AM

Amnesty? I keep asking, what is about ILLEGAL the government doesn’t understand?
By all accounts it’s clear isn’t it? With the lose of people and maming of people from illegal aliens, Washington has now put a price on your head…my head and every other American in the U.S. THEY DON’T CARE about you and I (until it’s voting time for 99.9%) they are just interested in securing a voter base.
So here we are. THey CAN’T possibly believe that this bill will work.
CRIPES!!!!!!!!!! Even the politicians know it won’t work.
Does anyone (I’m laughing here) think that someone who entered this country illegally will willfully exit this country, pay a $5,000 fine get their Z-Visas and come back here to work? NOT!!!!!!!! Come on. Like before they’ll go underground, continue to work under the table or by stealing your SS number.
We ARE whittnessing for all accounts the death of the United States as we know it. i.e.: Romans, Greeks, Geat Brtitain....and so on.

Unfortunately, we are surrounded by self severing politicians. I truly wish we had leaders as they did when this country was forged. Then we had forward thinking people that foresaw the United States and what it could be as they constructed a frame for our country they obviously had excellent foresight all the way up to the 21st century (or until their foresight was stolen). I recently made a trip to Washington for sightseeing and thought as I traveled around the city and through our buildings and museums, all the references to God, Liberty, Laws and the like reminded me that the current members of our government are treating our forefathers and laws with such contempt simply amazed me. AS equally amazing is that we as a people (aka the public) allow these people to continue. Perhaps I grew up in the wrong time. I’m finding this increasingly hard to swallow

As a business owner I do not hire anyone who does not speak English fluently. Secondly, if the legality of anyone being here was a question that individual wouldn't be hired. The first line of defense in ridding this nation of "illegals" is that no employer should be hiring anyone whose legal status might be in question, and any employer who does so should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Secondly, any community that declares itself to be a "safe zone" or a "safe haven" for illegals, those city, county or state officials should be prosecuted by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization department, or the Justice Department, whoever has the appropriate jurisdiction.

No employer, no city, county or state, church, or any organization that pronounces their purpose to be a "safe haven" has the right to ignore the immigration process or laws of this nation. All offenders should be prosecuted by the U.S.

As the wheels of justice grind away, the citizens of this nation need to be clear that such "safe havens" will not be tolerated and should take such action to remove from office all public officials who fail to abide by the laws of this nation.

POLLUX | 05.23.07 10:58 AM

It is clear that the Senate amnesty bill is a catastrophic sellout of historic proportions. Confused citizens need to understand that this bill, the politicians' open borders/non-enforcement policy, NAFTA and "Security & Prosperity Partnership" are major steps in the global elitists' plan to subvert our sovereignty and Constitution to a North American Union. Obviously, voting "the lesser of two evils" is not good enough any more. Thousands of citizens are finally firing the majors and joining the Constitution Party.

Burticus | 05.23.07 11:02 AM

I really like the part of the bill, where illegals DON'T have to pay back taxes. Isn't that nice of Ted and the boys. Since when doesn't a Democrate like taxes? This is all about a new block of voters.

Clay | 05.23.07 11:02 AM

Keep in mind that what the Politicians are doing is IMPORTING POVERTY! The group that will be forever sucking on the government nipple, and will VOTE to keep the freebies coming... AKA democrat party.
Poorly educated, low job skills, is THIS Immigration? NO there MUST be a balance of immigrants coming here. This is not Norte Mexico.
CLOSE every large business caught employing 50 or more illegals..no jobs, no money and they will self deport BACK to Mexico.
If they want to organize and demand rights, hey should go back to Mexico and demand rights there, and clean up their government. Mexico has the resources to be a very rich country.

Forget these assholes playing the race card. They are irrelavent and their only hope is to make you feel guilty. But they are the ones guilty of aiding and abetting the law breakers who enter this country illegally. Who help get the corrupt Mexican government off the hook form helping their own people. Who ruin education and drive up health care costs, rents, taxes and crime rates here. And help lower wages and benifits here. THIS IS A BAD BILL. JUST WHAT PART OF THIS DON'T YOU GET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thomas Shea | 05.23.07 11:04 AM

The real shits in all of this are Americans who profit by paying low wages to desperate people.
Of course they are coming over - there is food here, and left overs for the folks back home. I wonder why there is no similar outrage about the pervasie illegalities which beckons those folks hither.

Mike | 05.23.07 11:04 AM

We must support those that respect the rule of law, the Tom Tancredos, the Duncan Hunters, etcetera. ANY group of lawbreakers that enter this Country and DEMAND their rights must be exorcised and returned to the Country where they do indeed have rights. The day of the pandering politician must end and on this issue, President Bush is definitely wrong. Based on the outrage expressed by the American people, if this Bill or anything close to it is passed, there will be a rip in the political fabric of this Country that may never heal. We must demand that politicians return to doing the right and best thing for the USA, whether they be republican, democrat, or even a third party, one that is TRULY responsive to the ideals that built this country.

How about this for the new immigrant bill.

1. The anchor baby provisions will be abolished.

2. Companies that are caught knowingly hiring illegals will be fined heavily on the first offense, could face jail on the second offence, will face jail on the third offence.

3. Comming to the US illegally to be made a felony. When caught, fingerprints, photos, warrant search, and 30 days in jail before deportation.

4. Military style border fence to be constructed across all venerable sections of the US southern border.

5. Catch and release policy to be eliminated. If no id is available, then you must serve 30 days in jail until you are deported to the country of your choice.

TommyBoy | 05.23.07 11:12 AM

At first, I negatively knee-jerked on the proposal that 40 million illegal immigrants (and NOT 20 million as the media has been told to downplay the numbers to) COULD be given what amounted to amnesty. "Yeah, I thought, I'll be damned if I want some illegal man, woman or child to get MY Social Security benefits long before I do."

BUT...I have been thinking about this proposal and I have come to understand what the real meaning of the proposal may be - our [so-called] government WANTS AND EXPECTS the vast majority of AMERICANS to object and object strongly to the proposal. It's a "reverse psychology" ploy, as well as being another well-orchestrated ruse to distract us from the horrendous failures of Bush and his 'the-players-are-constantly-screwing-up' wrecking crew.

Through our collective objections to the proposal, we are literally boxing OURSELVES in by more strongly acquiring an attitude of seperatism and isolationalism, and THAT IS EXACTLY what the NWO powers want!!

If you have read anything about the NWO (and it is quite real in its' thought processes, actions and supporters), you surely must know that one of the key ways in which the NWO works is to pit each side against the other. They don't care one whit about who wins, because in the end the NWO will control them as well. And the proposal that illegal immigrants be given amnesty pits us not only against our fellow brothers and sisters but against each AMERICAN!!

Instead of going along with the NWO on this proposal and raising Hell, do a 180-degree turn and embrace the more sane proposal that we NOT isolate ourselves any further than we already have within the world community. The longer we REact and go with our primal fears that THEY (whoever they are) are going to take us over and ruin our society, the more difficult it will become for us to turn things around (once we've gotten rid of, in one way or another, certain and numerous governmental traitors.)

We intitally were being led down a path of lies, starting over 6 years ago. NOW, we are being PUSHED down a path of ever-increasing and more brazen lies and if we don't wake up RIGHT NOW, by this time next year if could well be a story that only happened in Russia or China. (P.S. Bush is just itching to pull the trigger on Iran, followed immediately by martial law in the U.S..)

Please stop your feeding of the huge amount of negativity that is pouring out of D.C.. Contacting your congressional or senatorial representatives WON'T do any good at this point. They are collectively too far gone to be of any use to the populace. Instead, form groups of support that positively energize you and others and stop feeding the negative. Ignore the [we-really-used-to-believe-they-were] elected officials and support only those persons running for office(s) that exude and espouse THE POSITIVES of this GREAT NATION!!

And regarding the immigrants - I say if they want to come here, just bring enough money to support yourself and your family for a minimum of 2 years and don't expect ANY handouts from a society THAT MUST put itself first if it is to expect any chance of survival.

The choices we each face MUST be faced logically and soberly. Any other response will only elicit more acts of treason and hatred from DC, thereby continuing to make our collective lives all the more difficult to operate under. THINK BEFORE YOU JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS! QUESTION the rationale of others who insist that you believe this or that. And above all else, TRUST YOUR OWN INNATE INTUITIONS about everything.

Thank you.

skyguy | 05.23.07 11:13 AM

I have witnessed a systematic decay of a beautiful city. This particular city is a "safe-zone" to illegal aliens. The decay does not immediately but progresses slowly at first - like CANCER. Here is how it works:
1) The Scenario
- A nice neighborhood with working class folks exists.
- A low-income apartment complex nearby with an easement into said neighborhood
- LOTS of traffic, muffler noise, drunken driving, discharge of firearms, loud music, chaos - coming from said apartment complex.
- Now there are school buses coming to said apartment complex - LOTS of them
2) Businesses
- Local business leave the area and are replaced by restaurants that cater to the illegal aliens
- Auto repair shops crop up all over the place including the nice neighborhood I mentioned
- Cheap big-box stores arrive, check cashing, pawn shops, Illegal Alien money Wiring shops appear
3) Nice neighborhood - AGAIN
- The hard working folks are tired of the noise, robberies, chaos and leave
- The vacant home is up for rent and suddenly there are 15 diffrent people living there
- 15 groups of family and friends show up on regular basis ALL of the TIME
- Other nice folks who live adjacent the new rental cannot get help from the local authorities and leave.
- Suddenly there is a new rental available and more illegal aliens suddebly appear

Do you see a pattern?

Congress should consider deporting Tancredo and Lou Dobbs. Maybe send them back in time to Nazi Germany-they will be at home.
Say NO to racism, pass comprehensive immigration reform.

steven | 05.23.07 11:17 AM

It's going to be real interesting to see what people say about illegal immigrants if they are all kicked out and the cost to eat at a restaurant triples and the costs of fruit and veggies goes through the roof - not to mention the cost of getting your house re-shingled or lawn done.

Let's find 'legal' citizens who will do those jobs for $6.00 an hour or less.....won't happen -half the people complaining and moaning about 'illegals' couldn't handle the work.

Brad | 05.23.07 11:17 AM

To grant a z card to over 15 million illegals would take over 4 years doing 10 thousand a day... With a one day security voucher, this will not be a exhaustive security deal.. I guess we have embassies in kenya who will verify an applicant, and China as well..What a piece of Sh-t... I agree....It is like a 3rd world country here now.. my neighbors have chickens in their yard and their laundry is strewn over the bushes in their yard... coming soon to your neighborhood

Joanne San Diego | 05.23.07 11:24 AM

A suggestion would be to urge all your friends and families to call their local Representitives and tell them what this Bill is "a piece of shit" anf if they pass it weither they be Republican or Democrat they will be remebered at the next election....

Kerry | 05.23.07 11:25 AM

You people don't understand that you're no longer in charge. The so-called voters can't stop history from happening and the take down of the US. If your politicians don't pass this, we'll be in the streets for weeks and then all you weak little white men will have to take out your own garbage and mow the lawns. My guess is you'll last a few days before you set even your deep-seated racism aside and support this. Regardless of what you write, you've lost your power, now its time for a new power, that of the worker!

AztlanLiberator | 05.23.07 11:25 AM

Gotta love the Senate, they are willing to throw the laws that THEY MADE on the fire and give up the USA's right to police its borders, punish violators, and pick and choose who it makes citizens, for cheap strawberrys and big macs.

Note to congress, PROVE YOU ARE WILLING TO ENFORCE THE BORDER, AND DO IT!!! Then, after a few successful years, we will talk about what to do with the illegals still around. Simple.

RC | 05.23.07 11:26 AM

If this current bill in the Senate passes or anything similiar, it's OVER for America; as in over a precipice.

Eric Vandenstrasse | 05.23.07 11:26 AM

I have seen some of the comments and as usual it didn't take long before the liberal bloggers to use the Racism / Bigotry name calling to support their leftist agenda. They cannot defend their position on facts so they resort to the name calling and try to stir up the emotions of the Hispanic community. Hmmm, many of my black brothers and sisters oppose the Mexican invation as well. We are fed up seeing our constructipon jobs going to the illegals. We are fed up seeing our neighborhoods invaded by illegals. Once, the Democratic party supported our people, but now we have been abandonded for the hispanics. Yes, we are no longer the majority minority group. The hispanics are. The black commmunity needs to embrace our white brothers and sisters in this common cause to take back our country. The liberals would not dare call use blacks racist too. That would be political suicides. I hope Massachusets, Arizona and Pensylvania voters will abandon the Kennedy, McCain, and Spector regime.

Blacks and Whites standing together

Jackson | 05.23.07 11:27 AM

I coudn't have said it better myself! Being allowed in this country needs to be treated as a privledge, something you pay for. If its given so easy it produces spoiled, unappreciative attitudes in people which brings nothing to our country. I think as Americans we should be able to vote what we think is best for immigration, its our tax dollars that are being spent to keep them here.

janet | 05.23.07 11:27 AM

when one of our elected representatives speaks with honesty and candor (albeit off the record in this case) it is so out of character for that group of charlatans that the reaction is shock. thank God a few can recognize this legislation for what it is. why in this pc world no one can recognize that we need a physical impediment to stop/greatly reduce the flood of uncontrolled illegal migrants is incredible. i think that boehner recognizes this necessity. i read somewhere recently that of the 700 miles of border fence (a pittance by the way) authorized in last year's legislation, 2 miles have been built. it needs to be much, much more before any further headway is made on an immigration bill.

ed moretti | 05.23.07 11:30 AM

Washington is giving this country away!! When will the citizens rise up and get rid of the corrupt politicians that want to turn our great country into a 3rd world nation.
Why have airport security when the terrorists can just walk across the border and destroy our way of life.
A country cannot continue to exist without secure borders and a common language!!

n Perry | 05.23.07 11:30 AM

Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) said this past weekend on national media that this new bill has the potential to "save" the Republican Party!!! He apparently believes this RUBBISH.

WARNING TO ALL FEDERAL-LEVEL POLITICIANS: I can think of no other issue in my lifetime that has the same potential to readily dismantle the Republican Party as soon as 2008 as this one does. I will not vote for now, or anytime in the future, any federal politician from either party that represents me that votes "aye" on this legislation. I suspect there are many, many millions of us out there that feel the same way (both Dems and Reps). I have written my federal reps and I would urge you to do the same immediately.

I think the hard-working, tax-paying American public has grown very tired of this onslaught of burglars who have come into our house through the backdoor and have now demanded that they be allowed to stay indefinitely. Our politicians are pandering to that estimated 12 million (more like 20 million) illegal population, damn to the rest of us. Believe me, Mr. or Ms. Politician, we WILL remember.

If you are here legally, following all the steps to eventually become a citizen, I welcome you with open arms. My grandparents who got off the boats legally in the early 1900s worked hard and built good lives' as they assimilated into the language and traditions of this great country and without ANY government handouts. They never "demanded" anything nor did they march in the streets for "rights".

This is asinine and sickening to think that current laws are being ignored in the hopes of adding eventual voters to either party. Do the math Mr. or Ms. Politician.

Average Joe Citizen | 05.23.07 11:31 AM

Oh... and Cohen...

Wanting those who cross our borders illegally and break our laws while sucking benefits meant for Americans is not an issue of race.
Nice try though. I am sure "racism and bigotry" are the same words you use to describe why anyone other than a lily-white driver gets a speeding ticket.
But while you are nailing those Americans who have the nerve to expect illegal aliens to respect our laws... you might want to consider the immigration laws of Mexico... you know, should you ever decide to leave the country you clearly hate in order to enjoy the freedoms there.

1.) Foreigners (that would be you) may not in any way participate in the political affairs of the country. This ban applies, among other things, to participation in demonstrations (like the protests the Mexican's staged HERE) and the expression of opinions in public about domestic politics.

2.) Equal employment rights are denied to immigrants, even legal ones, even those with green cards.

3.) Only citizens may serve in the military as officers, on airline crews , and chiefs of seaports and airports.

4.) Members of both houses of Congress as well as the Supreme Court must be a citizen by birth.

5.) Immigrants — even legal ones — may not become members of the clergy.

6.) Foreigners (that would be YOU in Mexico), legal or illegal, may not own land.

7.) Any citizen may arrest illegal immigrants (that would be YOU) and their accomplices (that would be YOUR family), turning them over without delay to the nearest authorities.

8.)Foreigners (again... YOU), legal or otherwise, may be expelled for any reason and without due process.

Chew on that for a while, dude.

And to those here with common sense (even if we don't quite agree politically)... God Bless You and America.

Sami, All these guys & gals are tools for somebody. The Dems are tools of moveon.org, NARAL, etc. What's the difference? Unless you defer to only those groups YOU side with.

MAC | 05.23.07 11:34 AM

Here's my immigration reform bill
1) Extend the San Diego fence to Brownsville TX (it won't stop everyone but it will stop many, and allow border agents to be more mobile to react to those who do climb or tunnel)
2) Clarify the 14th Amendment to state that a child born here is a citizen only if his/her parents have legal status to be here (any legal status green card etc, to get rid of the "anchor baby" issue"
3) Impose and enforce penalties on employers of illegals in the form of fines that raise the cost of doing business that way. (as an example, if they are paying say $8/hr, the fine would be the equivalent cost of $16/hr for the number of hours worked. I guarantee many of these employers would start seriously thinking about paying locals $12/hr to avoid the fine, once it was enforced)
Thats my plan, I think it would wokr better then anything I have seen from Kennedy/McCain

AZwolverine | 05.23.07 11:37 AM

This amnesty bill is the ultimate betrayal by these politicians. All for cheap labor. I'd love to physically throw these guys out of office for treasonous activity. This is like a government-sanctioned invasion, and we've been ordered to surrender.

Bill | 05.23.07 11:37 AM

A real man would never promise a lying, deceitful president that he'd swallow his honest opinions as a public servant in order to serve "the party."

We have come a long, long way from the America our founders envisioned.

Sean | 05.23.07 11:38 AM

I agree that we need a "French Revolution" or simply another American Revolution. That's the only thing that will ever straighten this mess out now. But don't look for it to happen. We like our full bellies and stupid TV programs to much to raise a defiant hand to government. Sadly, not near as many people are concerned about what our government is doing as we would like to think. Oh sure, most people know what is happening, they just a to complacent to act. Ron Paul is our salvation, yet we are as divided over Republican Presidential wannabe's as we are over who should win American Idol. Instead of all of us getting behind the only man who supports the Constitution, we wrestle and argue about the merits of this one world candidate over that one world candidate.Folks let me put it to you plain and simple. There is going to be no revolution. Things are only going to get worse. The good ole USA is on her way out of existance. And it won't be 50 years in getting here. We have less than 20 left. Ther's no country for us to flee to, no place for us to go. It's all over but the crying.

mb | 05.23.07 11:38 AM

Congress is selling this country down the drain....and why? Votes.
Funny how Bush does not recognize that this bill is a treat to our National Security. It'll only weaken our bordr security.

Steve | 05.23.07 11:39 AM

If our elected officials go for this amnesty, against the will of the citizens of this country, WE THE PEOPLE should initiate a massive recall vote and pull them out of office!

They will have lost our trust on a matter that threatens our ability to "establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity". (Check the preamble to the U.S. Constitution)

Funny, it appears to be okay to violate the constitutional rights of the citizens of the United States of America.

When did that happen?

More importantly, why did WE let it happen?

Mikey | 05.23.07 11:40 AM

Hey Olsen! Never heard of Boehner ? He's the guy who let Hastert take the fall. Just another of W's monkeys.

Hillary | 05.23.07 11:41 AM

I heard this morning that Senator McCaskill Democrat from Missouri is going to vote against it. Even the Dems least experienced Senator is smart enough to know that the amnesty for the illegals is wrong.

tommy boy | 05.23.07 11:42 AM

I was born in the U.S., hold a U.S. passport, but left 6 years ago to live abroad. Whenever I read comments to articles about the issues facing the U.S., I realize that this was the wisest decision I've ever made in my life. What a bunch of whiners you are. Pains me to go back once a year--over-fed, uninformed, super-paranoid, self-centered, loud-mouthed whiners...and yes, the rest of the world does laugh at you (hehehe)

Ima Citizen | 05.23.07 11:42 AM

The description is an accurate one. Hopefully, for the future generations of this country it will never pass. It would be nice to see a real immigration reform bill that deports all illegals, allows no benefits of any kind to illegals and that locks down the border. How hard can it be???????
