Ron Paul Blowback

Republicans have a message for Ron Paul: don't mess with us.

Since Tuesday's debate, Mr. Paul's supporters have flooded the phone lines and e-mail servers at South Carolina State Republican Party headquarters with complaints. A mild annoyance, to say the least. So the party is struck back, sort of. They have Mr. Paul's mobile phone number, and they invite all complaint callers to leave a message on it. Call it blowback.

Undaunted, Paul-ites soon moved to another target: outspoken Michigan Republican Party chairman Saul Anuzis, who publicly called for Paul to be banned from further debates. The Michigan Republican Party has been deluged with incoming missives, some inviting Anuzis to go become the Republican party chair of Cuba. They're even calling his home. Anuzis won't give him and still plans to circulate a petition. [MARC AMBINDER]

I urge all OTHER supporters of Dr. Paul to continue to agitate for our cause (pro-life, anti-tax, pro-gun rights, pro-peace) in the most polite way possible--best way for us to win more converts!

Bradley | 05.17.07 03:48 PM

"Republicans have a message for Ron Paul: don't mess with us."

- But Ron Paul IS a Republican, Stupid. LOL

Tim | 05.17.07 03:53 PM

Vote for Paul and throw the neocons out. Take back the party.

John | 05.17.07 04:43 PM

The GOP afraid of hearing the truth? Gee what a shocker!

Looks like I'll be voting Libertarian (again), but at least I don't have to hold my nose!

Brent | 05.17.07 05:07 PM

Banning Ron Paul from the debates? I thought we are fighting the Iraq war to promote freedom, liberty and democracy. Oops that only applies to middle east and not to the Republican party. The party of Lincoln has become so pathetic.

freed | 05.17.07 05:33 PM

This story is false according to Rob Godfrey, Communication Director of the South Carolina GOP. Kindly retract it now and to quote your beloved Giuliani, "Apologize" for printing it!!

corkey | 05.17.07 05:34 PM

Your second paragraph is a falsehood.

Did you just make that up?

Jerry Hicks | 05.17.07 06:14 PM

Anuzis first alegience is Israel. Let's face it...all of our intervention in the middle east is for the bandit state of Israel....the republican party has been hijacked by a group of subversives that put Israel first. We need to return to an America First foreign policy based on George Washington's farewell address.

Joseph Fields | 05.17.07 06:40 PM

First part of this item is a complete lie. It is now confirmed that there were no floods of complaints to SC GOP headquarters or any blowback.

Second part is true, Saul Anuzis needs to resign and become GOP chairman of Cuba.

Alex | 05.17.07 07:18 PM

This report is false in nearly every respect. No one flooded the South Carolina GOP's phone lines after the debate, and certainly not Paul's supporters. The South Carolina party did not give anyone access to Ron Paul's cell number.

So much for the "reporting" at the National Journal.

Justin Raimondo | 05.17.07 08:57 PM

Surely the opening sentence inverts the real story here: it's Ron Paul supporters who have a don't-mess-with-us message for the GOP.

Giving out a personal cell phone number? Pure class.

jlk | 05.17.07 10:27 PM

I'll believe the Michigan GOP point in that since you can look at some paleo-conservative blogs that give out the information, but you don't cite any sources or link to a url that would make me believe the first part. Why would supporters of Ron Paul complain to South Carolina GOP? He won the debate.

John | 05.17.07 10:53 PM

Let me just say how badly ignoring FOXnews is going to hurt the democrats in the coming months. Like it or not, that network delivers product to more viewers than any of its cable competitors. The Dems, at some point, will need FNC ... at which point I hope FNC tells them all to go to hell.

SCGOP denies Ron Paul storyShare
5:55pm Thursday, May 17This note is imported. View original post
We just spoke with Hogan Gidley, the Executive Director of the South Carolina GOP, who flat-out denied and refuted the Hotline story we covered earlier that they had been inundated with e-mails and phone calls from Ron Paul’s supporters.

“I don’t know where they pulled that out of,” said Gidley over the phone. “We did not give out Ron Paul’s phone number because we do not have Ron Paul’s phone number.

“We have not been ‘deluged’ with phone calls and, in fact, I kind of chuckled when I first saw the story because I didn’t think it would make news.”

journo junkie | 05.18.07 12:07 AM

According to the S.C. GOP headquarters, all of this is completely untrue. Do you plan to print a retraction?

Michael | 05.18.07 12:20 AM

INSIGHT for Insiders??? Word is you should have called the S. C. Republican Party before you simply spit out a story--more accurately a cheesy figment of your imagination.

You have your facts wrong: According to the party leadership, they haven't hand complaints from Paul supporters SINCE the debate; and they haven't passed out Paul's cell phone number. You need to examine the crap your political hacks feed you before you cut and paste it will nilly.

Anuzis stuck his foot in his mouth on a national politcal stage. He better be able to take the heat.

As for me, I am sending him a postage paid copy of the 911 Commission Report. Maybe he and Rudy can share it. If they study it some, thet'll get up to speed on the truth. Hopefully that will prevent them from making such ill informed statements in the future. Who knows, both might be men enough to appologize for their stupidity.

I am glad I am not one of the 11,000 people who have been fooled into subcribing to this rag.

This is giving me great ideas. The next time I meet with the 30 other Republican Town committee members in my town we will:
Ask all the Ron Paul supporters to resign and leave the party.
Announce that anyone who ever supported Pat Buchanan for anything should leave.
Evict all the Ross Perot kooks who wandered into the Republican party.
Ask for a show of hands for anyone who does not support the Administration's Iraq War policy or anyone who admires Chuck Hagel and suggest they find a new place to meet. Any liberal Republicans who ever donated to Lowell Weicker, Linc Chaffee or Jim Jeffords --- you are out!

The 5 remaining members can then finally have some peace and quiet.

Peter Walsh | 05.18.07 01:40 AM

Why do you guys make up lies? Is it to try to cover the fact that Republican Party can no longer tolerate truth-tellers, so you try to smear them?

The South Carolina part of the story is a lie. Retract it.

The Michigan part is true - and is an example of a corrupt party.

j snyder | 05.18.07 04:22 AM

Neo-Conservative approach: in the face of popular will, ignore it.

Trent Hill | 05.18.07 05:46 AM

The first half of this post is a complete fabrication. Didn't happen. Pure propaganda. So much for your credibility.

hellraiser | 05.18.07 06:27 AM

The phone number story true or not, its very true that republicans are calling for exclusion of Ron Paul from next debates. Some of well known conservatives who blog are also calling for his exclusions. What fascists! These republican morons want to bring democracy to the world and they themselves act worse than some of world's bad dictators.

Lets liberate our party of these morons. Operation American Freedom! Ron Paul rocks!

Sam | 05.18.07 09:06 AM

It appears that Hotline is being attacked by the moonbats for telling the truth. Dr. Paul's isolationism is dangerous. Look what happened the last time the United States followed an isolationist policy: 60 million people died in World War II. Since the United States has become strictly interventionist, the world has seen the greatest amount of peace in human history.

American interventionism might not be pretty, but its a lot better than what has happened in the past.

Ryan | 05.18.07 09:26 AM

National Journal Group Inc. is committed to providing publications and services that are nonpartisan, reliable and of the highest quality.

Bullshit.

daigoro | 05.18.07 09:35 AM

To Sam: Ron Paul is not about isolationism. Your comments are incorrect and nothing more than ill informed propaganda.
For those who wish to know what Ron Paul's
stance is on foreign policy need to look no further than You Tube....He will tell you himself.
NO SPIN.

Flo | 05.18.07 02:05 PM

Ron Paul is 100% right about 9/11 and the GOP can't handle it.

Who's the emotional, overly-sensitive party now?

Joe Justice | 05.18.07 02:35 PM

This is not the first time Girliani has heard this "theory". He is pandering to the most ignorant as Karl Rove has even admitted to. That is the gullible brainwashed christo fascists. Obviously anyone that believes the BS you people do are easy targets. You people should be embarrassed for your total lack of knowledge about history and reality for that matter. Look at the idiot above saying that "look at what happened before interventionism". What kind of idiot are you? What planet do you live on? Do you have any books other than the Bible? Do you have any clue about history past yesterday?

ph | 05.18.07 05:21 PM

"Look what happened the last time the United States followed an isolationist policy: 60 million people died in World War II. "

Are you forgetting what caused the second World War? It was the unrest that the allies created in Germany in the first world war by meddling with their nation's affairs after defeating them. And don't forget how that war was able to come about in the first place: a series of entangling alliances.

Oh yeah, and America wasn't isolationist in that war anyway. We were giving material support to England from almost the beginning, and to the USSR after they ended up on our side.

Seer | 05.18.07 05:31 PM

Thanks, Ryan, best laugh I've had all week.

Since you ~know~ so much about WW2 history, you might comment on American intervention in Cuba, the earlier one, that is -- 1898. And the follow-on to the Phillipines in 1902 ... oh, it wasn't genocide, just quieting 250,000 insurgent men, women and children. Intervention always started with ~noble intentions~ and ends in shame.

Stay tuned for my next mini-lecture on World War One and the intervention that wasn't necessary.

Novista | 05.18.07 10:14 PM

Ryan is one confused guy.

phil | 05.18.07 10:14 PM

It is very difficult to trust & believe the South Carolina GOP. Their claim of moral superiority & that they never communicate untruths is difficult to believe. Lee Atwater Bush 41's Campaign Manager, Political Manager & RNC Chairman was from South Carolina.

Ron Paul is honorable, honest & has the true interest of America.

GO RON PAUL.

Even independents will support you.

Honest Abe Lincoln

Honest Abraham Lincoln | 05.18.07 10:28 PM

Ron Paul is a disgrace to the GOP, we should kick him out and send him back to the Libertarian party where he belongs! He should be banned from our debates!!!!

Ron Paul makes our party look bad, we need to nominate an electable (and respectable) candidate like John McCain!

RonPaulisCrazy | 05.18.07 10:36 PM

National Journal is nothing more than a AIPAC platform.
This message is for this Ryan guy. You can never force democracy on people with the gun pointing at them.
You must be a blooming idiot.
RON PAUL IS TELLING THE THRUTH.
WE ALL MUST KEEP HIS MESSAGE ALIVE.

DOUG | 05.19.07 11:19 AM

Imagine troops from a muslim country stationed around Washington DC for 10 years. Impossible? Of course it is, it would be an affront to our national dignity.

But that is exactly how it is for Saudi citizens as American troops have been there since the first gulf war. We wouldn't like it and they don't.

When Cheney was defense secretary, he said the troops would leave when the was was over. Whether that was a lie then or not, we don't know. But the reason that 15 of 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudi wasn't that they hate our freedom, it's that they hate us meddling in their freedom.

Casey | 05.19.07 12:16 PM

I'm not a ron paul supporter at all. I don't hate him, I think he's decent, but i'm not a fan as of now. But this article has been shown to be erroneous, and i think the media needs to get it's act together and start doing things with a little bit of integrity.

How pathetic the attempts to silence ron paul. Who's next? anyone the media disagrees with? How insane and orwellian is this!!! Thank god for the internet or we'd be totally screwed!!!

jreb | 05.19.07 08:56 PM

All of a sudden the BIG Republican tent just turned into a pup tent with a little sign out in front which says: Only fundamentalist Christians and neo-cons can enter.

Ardie | 05.20.07 11:07 AM

Ron Paul is not an isolationist!

Ron is for free trade. Ron Paul is NOT for government directed free trade. Ron Paul is NOT for foreign country controlled free trade. Dr. Paul is very interested in trading with other countries. He is not interested in trading with them provided they do everything our way. Do you know all oil deals in the world have to be done in US currency? That means the US makes money on every single oil transaction that occurs anywhere whether the US has anything to do with the deal or not. Does that sound like free trade to you?

Ron is NOT against war. Ron Paul would go to war if congress voted to do so. The United States Constitution says congress has to DECLARE WAR. Congress has not done so since WWII.

All Ron Paul said is; if we are going to war, DECLARE it. Then make a plan to win.

AND STOP CALLING HIM AN ISOLATIONIST BECAUSE HE IS NOT!

MDO | 05.31.07 07:26 AM

Good for the GOP. It's amazing that Ron Paul's supporters are such fans of freedom but they absolutely love shouting down and drowning out anybody in their party that disagrees.

N.C. | 06.08.07 06:29 PM

Dr. Ron Paul possesses integrity, consistency, and the intellectual honesty that makes him the only worthy candidate for president in 2008. It is outrageous to me that all the republican candidates, except Dr. Paul, endorsed a preemptive strike against Iran with nuclear weapons, if felt necessary. They represent an extension of the Bush-Cheney war mongering and continue to defend a colossal mistake. Furthermore they seem to want to escalate the conflict. Dr. Paul’s staunch opposition to this stance and his compelling arguments against such flawed foreign policy and his profound insight into the reasons for the proliferation of terrorism make him the ideal person to fight the ‘ War on Terror’. He is truly the defender of the constitution and a patriot and is the only individual who can reverse the downward spiral of this great nation. It is therefore not surprising that so many Americans stand behind him and will prove that we still have a democracy and power does not rest with corrupt politicians and the corporations that finance them.

DV | 06.17.07 01:06 AM

Wow. Amazing what some people are willing to say to shut the truth out of the public's eyes. Big brother is here, and he is watching you! I think Ron Paul is the only politician (if you can call him that) that is trying to open our eyes up to reality, that we live in Orwellian times, that if we don't do something now 1984 will be here to stay. "They" are getting desperate, trying to spear Ron Paul's image, so that all his truths will seem like lies. Really what they're doing is what they have always done to control the masses - instill fear, doubt, disbelief, sansationalism, and false information.

anya | 07.06.07 06:20 PM

what are they afraid of?!?!?!? wtf....vote for ron paul he is our only hope

taylor | 09.22.07 03:00 AM

The American people have been lied to for decades. Ever heard of the CFR (Council on Foreign Relations)? Do some research!!! I know most of you Ron Paul supporters know some things about the CFR. It took me three trips to IRAQ to get me thinking. I'm glad many of you can see the light without that kind of exposure to the truth. Save our country and our troops!....vote for RON PAUL!!!

jesse sutton | 01.13.08 03:08 PM

global governance and other forms of fabian socialism is what ron paul is against. for some reason people and the media don't understand that.america has been sold a bill of goods by the present administration and it will continue if ron paul does not get elected.

r. angelo | 02.01.08 06:02 AM

Vote for Paul. Make being a Republican respectable again.
