Obama: $20M

Barack Obama's camp just announced its 3rdQ totals: More than 93K donors gave him "at least" $19M in primary dollars alone, for a total of at least $20M, including 11/08 funds.

Obama camp mgr David Plouffe said the totals discredit claims by "many in Washington" who "have spent the last weeks declaring that outcome of this race to be pre-ordained, and the primary process a mere formality.” More Plouffe: “In this quarter alone, 93,000 more Americans joined our campaign, because they desire real change and believe Barack Obama is the one candidate who can deliver it. This grassroots movement for change will not be deterred by Washington conventional wisdom because in many ways it is built to challenge it.”

Third quarter totals:

• Primary dollars raised: at least $19 million

• Overall dollars raised (with general election): at least $20 million

• Number of new donors: over 93,000

Total 2007

• Primary dollars raised: at least $74.9 million

• Total number of donors: 352,000

Who wants to tell Plouffe that donors don't necessarily translate into votes? If Obama can't boost his poll numbers, lots of those donors are going to vote for someone else.

Plouff is right. while the msm ignores the fact that Obama has this huge grassroots effort building they focus instead on who can gush the most about Hillary and obsess on national polls.
People who are starting to pay attention live in the early states. for the most part, the majority of people are not and pick clinton because of her last name. Truthfully, she would not even be in the race, or in senate, if not for her last name.
As Frank Rich said very truthfully, Hillary is a follower and not a leader.
Obama is a leader and is the right candidate. Who else could get all the people who long ago gave up on politics to believe again? Who could make republicans leave their party so they can vote for Obama? who can get people never engaged before to suddenly feel the need to be active, donate and work hard to get him in white house?
Barack obama is building a real movement.
