But McCain Scores 26th N.H. Newspaper Nod
The Nashua Telegraph announced today that John McCain deserves his party's nomination. It was the second time the paper endorsed the Arizona senator; its editors backed him in 2000 against George W. Bush.
Here's one question ... Does all this McCain momentum in the Granite State come to an abrupt halt if Romney scraps together a win in Iowa? Discuss. For now, read The Telegraph's reasoning, complete with those familiar McCain descriptors, integrity and forthrightness:
Eight years ago, when he was running as a political maverick against Republican establishment candidate George W. Bush, we endorsed John McCain for the GOP nomination for president of the United States.
We did so because of his integrity.
We did so because of his leadership.
We did so because of his forthrightness and his refusal to pander to voters by telling them what they wanted to hear.
A lot of things have changed in this country during these last eight years, starting with the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, which resulted in the tragic deaths of nearly 3,000 Americans and led to the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.
But not everything has changed. McCain is here once again, crisscrossing the Granite State in his Straight Talk Express tour bus, displaying the same integrity, vision and, yes, straight talk that marked his earlier, unsuccessful run for the presidency.
Oh, and one more thing hasn't changed: our support.

I for one can't wait until McCain beats flip-flop Mitt in NH and he's finally out of the race. I am well aware of the misgivings that many of my fellow conservatives have about John McCain, and as it happens I myself share some of them. But at hye end of the day, I want an honest, upfront leader with core conservative principles to protect us from terrorism, reign in spending, and appoint conservative judges. The most cosistent conservatve, yet electable, with the backbone to be proactive against our enemies is and always has been John McCain

I voted for McCain in 2000 and wil vote for him in 2008. Deduct the 6 years he lost in the HanoiJane hell hole and 71 less 6 is 65 effective age. Pelosi is older at 67. McCain has the testicular fortitude to lead in the trying times of the planet and USA.

If Mitt Flip Flopper Romney squeaks out a win in IA I don't think it will do anything to help him. He outspent Huckabee in IA so he was expected to do well. The only way the Flip Flopper is helped by an IA win is if he beats Huck by 5+ points, but then again Huck's people might start flocking to McCain.

McCain is as big a disaster as Huckabee and I'm confident that voters will realize that too. McCain-Feingold, helping Sen. Kennedy try to get amnesty for illegal immigrants, Keating 5, Gang of 14, questionable mental stability, and on and on.

It is important to recognize that the 26 include Salmon Press, a collection of 10 newspapers, the Portsmouth Herald, which publishes three other papers, and the Cabinet papers, which IIRC publish four or five papers. So this is not the result of 26 different editorial boards sitting down and saying, "McCain's our guy." It's the result of about ten editorial boards doing so, many of which have serious political disagreements with him but endorsed him out of revulsion at the alternatives.
Still, it's about nine more endorsements than Rudolph 911uliani or Mitt "Ken Doll, except more plasticky" Romney can boast.
