Mac Says Thompson Hearts Him

While campaigning in Wichita, this afternoon with KS senator and former presidential candidate Sam Brownback, John McCain announced that he had recently received the support of another former candidate.

"I also spoke again yesterday to my friend Fred Thompson who assured me he is ready to do whatever it takes to help me win the election in November," McCain said. "I'm very proud to have the friendship and support of Fred Thompson as well."

The campaign would not confirm whether Thompson officially endorsed McCain or not, and sources close to Thompson did not immediately return phone inquiries. Thompson did serve as a national co-chair of McCain's 2000 presidential campaign but has not announced formal support since he dropped out of the race last month.

McCain has many reasons to feel confident in his bid for the nomination after Mitt Romney suspended his campaign yesterday, but GOP donors had already begun to coalesce around their new frontrunner in January. On the campaign's plane traveling from Virginia to Kansas this morning, McCain's campaign manager told reporters that the campaign had raised $12 million last month alone, surpassing the campaign's entire fourth quarter total.

Fred Thompson is a McCAIN true friend, a patriot, and a good southern conservative Christian gentleman. He would bring a lot of border and illegal immigration credibility to the ticket. His being their will allow me to vote for the "Maverick" Arizona Senator!

Great... Thompson joins the McCain ticket and all the nervous nellies that deep down want to be good little Republicans will fall in line and vote for the Amnesty crusader. Shame on you.

Being an "amnesty crusader" pales in comparison to McCains rock solid positions on the core principles of the Reagan coalition:
#1 - National Defense / War on Terror
#2 - Fiscal Conservatism
#3 - Pro Life
Its hard to fathom how any conservative voter could see any alternative but to support John McCain at this point.

Unless they'd rather have:
- Sharia overlords threatening America
- Tax & Spend Socialism
- Death to fetuses at any stage of development as a convenience.
- Hard left liberal justices onthe supreme court to usher in moveon.org and Rosie O'Donnell's vision for the nation.

Please, please get your priorities straight! The borders will be secured. Get over the specific fate of the illegal immigrants already here not being perfectly resolved to your liking, at least to the point of not letting that issue trump the things that matter most. If there was any issue to compromise on to win back Republican losses and keep the white house in 2008, illegal immigration is it. It is not "make or break" like #s 1, 2 and 3 above. In fact #1 alone is "make or break" for me!

Fred Thompson was just right to me on ALL the issues, but it became clear that just ain't gonna fly. Let's hope and pray that enough of us still realize that the fate of the middle east (and by extension much of the free world) depends upon the establishment of a stable government in Iraq. The next president may have to deal with a nuclear Iran. Obama? The Clintons? Paleeeeeeeese.

So the point is there's a lot more to be worried about than Maria the maid or Jose the gardner being deported.

There is no announcement of Fred Thompson endorsing McCain. If there was it would be loud and clear from Fred Thompson. McCain is spinning again and trying to get the Fred supporters. I have been a Fred supporter since he even gave a thought to the run. I promise you, no true Fred supporter would support McCain. He hasn't gotten his votes up until now, nor will the lying jerk ever. McCLIAR is at it again.
