Worse News For The House GOP?
There appears to be two disappointing developments for the House GOP tonight.
First, in TX-23, the cash-strapped NRCC lost a self-funder in atty "Quico" Canseco (R), as he was defeated by Bexar Co. Commis. Lyle Larson (R), according to the AP.
With 21% of the precincts reporting, Larson led Canseco 63-37%. Canseco outspent Larson by more than 4-1, but Larson had the advantage of having high name ID from his time served on the Bexar Co. Commis.
Larson is the stronger candidate of the two, so it's not a total loss for the GOP. But Canseco's money sure would've helped in an uphill race against Rep. Ciro Rodriguez (D) in Nov.
And in OH-16, where GOP hopes of holding Rep. Ralph Regula's (R) seat were already dimmed, their favored candidate, state Sen. Kirk Schuring (R) trails Ashland Co. Commis. Matt Miller (R) 46-44% with 88% of precincts reporting. The Dem nominee, State Sen. John Boccieri, has proven to be a very strong candidate, and that, combined with the struggling OH economy, makes him the early frontrunner against either GOP candidate. And especially against Miller.
