Hand Over Heart -- Or Mouth

NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann reported earlier today that Bill Clinton, campaigning in Charlotte, NC, said: "I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country, and people could actually ask themselves who is right on these issues, instead of all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics. So that is my argument for her."

His remarks prompted spokesman Matt McKenna to attempt to clarify the president's intent: "Actually, as is indicated by the quote itself, President Clinton was talking about the need to talk about issues, rather than falsely questioning any candidate's patriotism. He was lamenting that these kind of distractions 'always seems to intrude' on political campaigns. This is consistent with his criticism of the 'politics of personal destruction,' which dates back 16 years."

So he wasn't talking about his wife and John McCain, eh?

Lucky for the Clintons how that "other stuff" manages to "intrude itself" into our political discourse.

If human agency were required to inject baseless accusations of anti-Americanism into a campaign, it might look like pandering to cite them as reasons to vote against their target.

Plausible deniability---clinton stock and trade...He is SOOOOO shrewd but the audience has expanded [meaning video-internet- not the crowds to see him], they no longer hang on his every word like the pundits have in the past. These bright young people have a handle on the art of the obscure turn of phrase. It is out to the world in a heartbeat and the speaker has egg on their face...
I believe that is why Obama plays so well..I met him first, 2 years ago, what struck me was his great ease with himself and others. Then came that feeling of encountering a person with a strong moral compass. I did not agree with all is points that day nor today--however, there is no doubt in my mind he has a greater sense of the importance of this time and the challenges that are present than either of the others running. He also, has the capacity to really listen and HEAR the concerns of those speaking. Strategic thinking is within his lexicon but without judgement. Excuse- I am beginning to wax nostalgic for the years of my youth---the 1960's.
