Heads Up -- DNC Returning $$ To Disgruntled Donors
A Democratic source tells On Call that the Democratic National Committee is returning as much as $175K to donors dismayed with the party's handling of the Florida and Michigan primaries. My source says the exact amount will be reported in the April 20 FEC filing.
UPDATE: A DNC spokeswoman is confirming that the party is returning money, totaling $45K, to three donors. Details will indeed be reported in that April 20 filing. All three are FL donors upset with the ongoing debate about how and if the state's votes and delegates will be counted.

Considering the millions and millions that have been raised by the two campaigns and the DNC, it doesn't sound like much.

I guess $45K doesn't buy as much influence as it used to. Well, maybe things are changing for the better.

Good! Give all of those spoiled brats their money back. Obama will raise more than that by lunchtime!

i applaud the DNC for returning the donor's money. just because they donated doesnt mean they now call the shots and can blackmail or strong arm the DNC leadership to do their bidding.
also, they should publish those donors names so we can know who they are and embarrass them in public accordingly.

That is just money. Wait until you see the backlash in votes come November. That is when our votes will count!
Melissa | 04.04.08 10:19 PM
It's only fair to return the money, since the DNC has decided not to acknowledge the votes. Immediately after the Iowa caucuses, the Democratic Party "elites" joined forces with the MSM, idealistc college students & their affluent parents with their relentless chant that sounds an awful lot like this: "STEP ASIDE PLEASE, NICE YOUNG BLACK MAN COMING THRU. PLEASE STEP ASIDE FOR THE YOUNG BLACK MAN. EXCUSE ME, DON'T MAKE ME ASK AGAIN, WE DEMAND THAT ANYONE WITH EXPERIENCE PLEASE STEP ASIDE."

Good on the DNC for standing its ground. I think everyone agrees that Florida and Mich should be represented in the convention. It is so much better if a compromise is reached without having to deal with pressure from big-money politics. Howard Dean should be commended.

Howard Dean has become an unsung hero in this campaign - he has stood up forcefully to uphold the rules and put a stop of any attempt by the Clinton people to run ramshod over the Democreatic party.
In fact, I now see more of how good Dean could have been as a unifying and decisive President if the main stream media had not destroyed him in 2004 over a scream of enthusiasm and joy ... this country has been really good at ruining the chances of its own best leaders.

Pelosi and Dean are democrasy heros...Lets donate 10 dollars each to the DNC

REZKO, THE CHICAGO POLITICAL FIXER ON TRIAL NOW, RAISED A LOT OF MONEY FOR CHICAGO POLITICAINS, INCLUDING OBAMA. ALL FOR THE PURPOSE OF GAINING ADVANTAGE FOR HIMSELF AND HIS FRIENDS. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR (AND THE REST OF US). CHECK OUT OBAMA'S DONORS.
THERE AR NONE SO BLIND AS THOSE WHO WILL NOT SEE.

we teach children to play by the rules don't we. clinton knew the rules before the voting and so the the people. clintons people are complaining now even though they knew what the rules were. don't blame the dnc blame your own legislators who knew what the rules were all along. i tell people if you tell the truth you won't have to lie. what example is this sending to our children? you don't have to play by the rules, you can lie if you don't get your way. the people in those states need to kick their legislators out for making this mistake.

I wish it were true that cheaters never prosper.
In this case, I am glad Howard Dean is at least holding cheaters at bay. The rules are the rules -- play by them, or get called on it; it's as simple as that.
Florida had numerous opportunities to get back in the game by **playing by the rules**. They refused. Now they want the rules changed.
Go cry me a river.

Wah, Wah, Wah,
This Florida debate has grown so tiresome. Leave it to the morons from the peninsula state to blame the DNC for their state's trangressions. I don't know who's worse, the whiny voters or the state democrats who got pimped by Crist and the rest of the Republicans. As someone who lived in Florida from 2000 - 2007, I'm so happy to be out of that disfunctional state, free at last!
Part of me wishes that Dean and Obama amend their 50 state strategy for a 49 state strategy, so they can tell these incompetent cry babies to take their votes and shove them. Focus those resources on VA, MD, CO, MO, OH, and PA. Florida does not deserve to have an emphasized impact on this election!!
Vision Quest | 04.05.08 12:35 PM
Wow there are some really ignorant posters on this board. You really think obama can win (if he is the nominee) without MI & FL? LOL you are a bunch of morons! Oh vision quest there is no way obama is going to win in CO, MO, OH, in the General since the Rev. Wright hate speech came to light there are many in CO that USED to support obama who have said they will vote for Hillary or MCCain and with the Latinos that did not participate in the caucuses they will in the General and there is NO WAY they are voting for obama, I know I live here. MO since rev. wright has McCain beating obama by double digits. Ohio won't go for obama look at the exit polls. and if you think he is going to win ID, AK, WY or any of the other red states think again, your living in a fantasy land.

Normally I would agree with what many of you are saying about "rules are rules." But, it seemed to me the DNC simply decided to use Florida and Michigan as "whipping boys" to ensure that no one challange their most sacred rule of all: THE RULE THAT SAYS IOWA AND NEW HAMPSHIRE MUST BE ALLOWED TO VOTE FIRST.
Voters in the other 48 states are really of no consequence anyway. It's just the money that the DNC wants. Thanks goodness there are at least a few principled donors out there who are asking for their money back.
Roy Cox | 04.05.08 04:14 PM
Ask the money back :). I would suggest all donors from other states ask for the money back
so that the DNC come to their senses. These same guys have been donating to the DNC even in 2000 to 08. Dean and the DNC should leave their arrogance and bring MI and FL to the mix.
BHO will not win MI or FL if this plays out
Without MI and FL, there is no way he is going to win the presidency

Everyone hates Hillary - who cares about Florida
Nick | 04.05.08 08:52 PM
Florida screwed it up for the rest of us in 2000. Why do the other 49 states care what Floridians want this time around? Florida you should secede
Nick | 04.05.08 08:54 PM
Fair enough. The DNC is not doing its job. And as for Obama lunch money donors---who's subsidizing you giving Obama a free lunch on money and issues? Are your contributions from on the credit card company you intend not to pay but instead declare bankruptcy because you supposedly didn't understand the 5th grade concept of interest. Or maybe working Americans that you kids want to pay for or reduce your college loans AFTER you agreed to repay them. Give me a break. You're giving and voting for Obama because it's in your self interest and he's promising you it because that's in his. Politics as always. What a sham you and Obama both are.
