HRC: Learn From Hanging Chads Of Elections Past

UPDATE: Here's the audio of HRC's interview ...

WASHINGTON - As she prepares to campaign in Florida today, Hillary Clinton said in a radio interview this morning that Democrats should learn from the lessons of the hanging chads from elections past and not ignore the will of the voters.

Clinton, speaking with WMJI radio in Cleveland, Ohio, this morning before flying to Florida, referred to the upcoming HBO movie about the 2000 recount and said she has heard that it "makes a very strong case" for seating the state's delegates today.

"The lesson is if you can discern the clear intent of the voter, why would you punish the voter?" she said. "We are turning this into a major battle that I think is really ill serving the party."

Clinton will be making that case today during three campaign appearances in South Florida, where she is expected to also press her argument that she is leading in the popular vote. Clinton also said the entire nomination process should be looked at in the future.

"We've got to change the way we nominate presidents for a lot of reasons," she said. "I personally believe these caucuses are terribly unrepresentative. ... [And] I think that what's happened with Florida and Michigan raises serious questions about the principles of our party."

Clinton claimed some measure of momentum, saying that since Feb. 200 she has "won the states that have been contested that we have to win."

"I have a lead in the popular vote that I added to last night," she said, referring to a strong showing in Kentucky. "I continue to believe that I am the stronger candidate to be John McCain in the fall."

Clinton again alluded to her gender, saying when asked about media coverage of her that it "has been a really challenging campaign for both Senator Obama and me."

"We've never had a woman this close, we certainly have never had an African American [this close," she said. "I cant tell you how many times an older man will say to me, 'You know I decided to support you and I though I'd never support a woman. "And it's a really nice moment."

Clinton called in for the interview en route to Dulles Airport. Joining the hosts in studio were Sen. Sherrod Brown and Rep. Zack Space, two uncommitted superdelegates. Space at one point praised Clinton, saying it is clear she speaks from the heart and is passionate about the issues.

"Can I assume this is your superdelegate endorsement?" Clinton joked. "Seventy percent of the people who voted for me in your district would be so happy to hear that."

Space demurred, saying only that there were two great candidates.

Dear Fellow Americans,

Our Great-grand Nation, the United States of America
is facing and will face very critical and substantial
"Challenges" in coming, months, years, and next
decade[s].

It is very essential as well as critical that we pick
our next
President keeping in mind the following criteria.

1. A candidate who has a clear and candid " Vision
and Mission" for our Nation.

2. A candidate with " Strong Character and Stable
Integrity" in-spite of adversity during our present
election process.

3. A candidate with sound and sustained
"Presidential Temperament" and " Judgment".

4. A candidate with little "Washington exposure"
and "real connectedness with people and future
generation".

5. A candidate who "Inspires us up" rather than
"Tears us Down".

6. A candidate not based on sexism,
racism, regionalism, and ageism and as well as “
attempts to bring us together “

In my professional, political and personal opinion,
the only candidate that meets the all above
characteristics and has shown constant and consistent
coolness, calmness, and connectedness { PRESIDENTIAL
TEMPERAMENT } is Senator Barrack Obama.

As an independent registered voter since 1980. I voted
for Carter, voted for Reagan, voted for First Bush,
and second Bush in 2000 and In the process last
interest in Washington politics and I stopped voting.
Getting disinterested and disgusted in our political
process and stopping voting that was a very bad
decision in any circumstance, particularly under
present circumstances.

This time we can not afford to stay on side lines and
let "Washington" stay the same.We can not afford our
Greatgreat Nation to become less than what we are,
what we were and what we can be?

We need to send clear, careful and candid message to
the world and some time 24 hour partisan divisive
media,
that WE the American people will set the agenda for
our future and America will be back.

These partisan media outlets are trying to deprive,
dupe, and derail us and our Nation in getting it right
this time. We not let it happen this time or in
future.

Some of these partisan media and pundits are trying
their best
to deny us better future and continue focus our
weaknesses and generate bitter future for us and our
Greatgrand Nation. { Our Greatgrand Nations people
are persistently and constantly subjected to this
Psychological Terrorism" without common people’s
knowledge. The
common and regular people do not have time to see
thru and sort thru this psychological terrorism
perpetuated
by some of these partisan media outlets. I find it
tragic, unfortunate, and sad [ Probably they do not
care about our Greatgrand Nation ].

We the Americans should not and would not to allow
Some these partisan media outlets psychologically
terrorized, traumatized and silence us this time or
any time in future.

I am sure that we will get it right this
time and elect Senator Obama our next President.

Let us remember that our Greatgrand is constituted of
family, friends,fellowships, faith, funds,foundation,
fun, and future with fairness and freedom and without
fear, favor, or failure .

We can not afford to lose any of above. Let us stand
up, be counted, save, build our Greatgrand Nation for
centuries to come and regain our world economic,
moral, and power status back.

God Bless our Great grand Nation and its diverse
people.

Our Greatgrand nation needs present and future
stability, security, safety,sustained progress and
restoration of our due status in this perilous Global
World at the all levels.

Will of the voters? Neither candidate can claim the "will of the voters" since the popular vote is so close. If Clinton were up by 5% or 10% on a widely accepted count but behind in delegates then maybe there would be something to this.

But she's not, and without that kind of lead you have to go with the rules that SHE AGREED TO before the race started: delegate count. And, without a doubt, she is losing that.

NaR | 05.21.08 11:42 AM

Don't count HRC out yet. She has a June surprise in the works. google the names Larry Sinclair and Donald Young. It seems Obama has Jennifer Flowers (sorta) / Vince Foster problem.

Fully vetted indeed!

Why is the media ignoring this?

Pete Kent | 05.21.08 01:29 PM

What a piece of baloney the Sincliar story is...He FAILED 2 Lie detector tests...That lie was circulated months ago and proven without merit but you can be sure that the clintonites are digging because of all the petty BS they keep bringing up...Think they are spinning their wheels--or they would have used something by now...There must be NO there there!!

The one thing I know for sure is that she must be ALLOWED to run herself to ground...no one could reason with her and she gives not a twit for our party!

Bink1 | 05.21.08 01:41 PM

Has anyone else noticed that the only candidates who don't want to count all the votes are the very candidates who would LOSE if all the votes were counted?

I appreciate the post, Dr. K, but about 17 million Democratic voters disagree with you. I have a thicker resume than Barack Obama.
Don't you?
Seriously.

Last November, when ten Democratic candidates were just starting their campaigns, Chris Rock introduced Barack Obama at a fundraiser in Harlem and told the audience that they would be "embarrassed" if they voted for "the white lady."

Guess what, Dr. K?
The white ladies in America, and the typical white guys too...? They are proud to vote for the white lady.

Can you imagine the outcry if, last November, Bill Clinton had introduced Hillary by telling the audience they would be embarrassed if they voted for "the black guy"?

Jan | 05.21.08 02:01 PM

And about 17 million Democratic voters agree with Dr. K. Also, how exactly will you count the votes of all the folks who stayed home because they believed everyone (including Hillary) when they said the FL and MI contests won't matter.

As for the Chris Rock quote, I believe it's inappropriate, but comedians have always been and will always be a bit inappropriate. It's why they are funny. It helps to put the whole quote, speaking to a black audience in Clinton's territory, in context....

'Then something happened to Rock's face. His eyes began to twinkle. His mouth opened into a half-moon grin. He leaned forward conspiratorially. And then he said: "'Cause you'd be real embarrassed if he won and you wasn't down with it. You'd say: 'Man, I can't call him now! I had that white lady, what was I thinking?'"'

Lisa | 05.21.08 02:44 PM

Why is the media ignoring this?

---

I'm guessing it's some big liberal conspiracy. AM I right? What do I win? A free pass to the Reagan library? Whopee! An autographed picture of TOm Sellick? Double whopee!!

Royal King | 05.21.08 03:19 PM

Hilary should take this fight to the convention even if the FL and MI delegates are seated. it is very likely that Obama may not win the nomination in the first ballot. the reason is that the Wright story came out in March. The ball game changes and the delegates are open. There are more stories yet to come. See Judicialwatch forum in CSPAN (May 15, 08).

roy shak | 05.21.08 06:18 PM

If Fl. and Mi. voters are denied their right to have their votes count-I believe Senator Obama declined letting them revote- I will vote for Senator McCain, as I believe a strong Democratic Congress and McCain as President may be the best combination for a strong Domestic and Foreign position going forward. Perhaps, this combination will work for all Americans, as in previous check and balance situations.I would prefer Hillary Clinton, despite the barrage of negative media coverage, but, the pundits are mistaken to think my vote will"fall in place" by November. It may be a disappointment to the DNC and Hillary Clinton, but I value my vote. To say the least, if the DNC
"messed" up these primaries by complicating the process so miserably, maybe they deserve the defection of some of their supporters.

Greta | 05.21.08 08:18 PM

All you supposed "I'm a dem voting for McCain" people.....

This one's for you:

"""John Hagee, the controversial evangelical leader and endorser of Sen. John McCain, argued in a late 1990s sermon that the Nazis had operated on God’s behalf to chase the Jews from Europe and shepherd them to Palestine. According to the Reverend, Adolph Hitler was a “hunter,” sent by God, who was tasked with expediting God’s will of having the Jews re-establish a state of Israel.

[...]

The sermon, which was first posted by Bruce Wilson on his site, Talk To Action, adds another element to Hagee’s controversial stance on the state and history of Israel. It also may provide a new round of political headaches for McCain who has admitted that seeking out Hagee’s endorsement was a mistake, but still declared himself “glad to have” it."""

www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/15619.html

John McCain sought out this FREAK's endorsement.

Ethan | 05.21.08 08:26 PM

To Ethan-

My point exactly. If, both McCain and Obama carry, in all fairness, suspicion concerning their respective "spiritual" and "ideological" influences, I think Hillary Clinton is the best option, since she has been portrayed as being merely secularly "power hungry".In absence of her nomination, as in my above scenario, maybe the two branches of government would watchdog each other again. Let's face it, they are all politicians.

Greta | 05.21.08 08:36 PM

Greta, I totally fail to see your logic. Your comments make absolutely no sense.

For one thing, the Florida primary was caused by REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED State Congress and Gov.

MI was also kicked off a Republican Senate.

"""""Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer released the following statement regarding the Michigan Senate Republicans decision to pass a presidential primary bill.

"It's unfortunate that the Senate Republicans passed this presidential primary bill today. The Michigan Democratic Party continues to oppose this bill and we applaud all the Democrats in the State Senate for unanimously voting against it. We look forward to having our caucus plan approved at the DNC's Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting this Saturday in Washington, DC """""

So your complaining about the DNC causing the problems is factually incorrect and if you gave half a damn you'd know that.

Secondly, McCain as President? Good? So he would get to choose political appointees at EVERY SINGLE POLITICAL position in our Government. INCLUDING judges. You want judges who are fair to women, fair to labor, fair to the environment, civil rights, civil liberties? Forget it. Every single appointment is going to come from the Dick Cheney school of government and it will cause needless heartache, rancor and partisanship. Is that what you want?

The very idea of a watchdog government has been a TOTAL FAILURE under George "King Idiot" Bush. His approval rate is in the 20's and the Congress' approval rate is in the 20s because the GOP has obstructed all legislation making every single vote pass the 60-vote Filibuster hurdle. Every single vote. Filibuster. According to the GOP, the Dems are passing bad legislation, according to the Dems, the GOP is obstructionist. Everybody is obstructing everything. Meanwhile, gas prices are $4/gallon setting records and climbing up up up (in advance of the summer driving season no less, I hope YOU are ready to pay well more than $4/gal), food prices setting records, economy is in a recession, health care premiums are going up and up, the housing bubble is bursting, Iraq is still a complete disaster and nobody can do a damn thing about it because we have the biggest idiot President in history.

So. What was your reason for wanting this un-sustainable scenario to continue? B/c YOUR candidate lost? Cry me a friggin river. Wake up Greta.

Frankly, what do I care? You probably have never been a Dem, never will be a Dem, and if you vote for McCain you will be a loser in November just like supposedly picked the loser in the Dem primary as well. Go ahead and vote for McCain, with or without you the Barack Obama and a fresh new crop of Democratic Senators and Congressmen and women will sweep into power a new generation of leadership that will make the last 8 years seem like a nightmarish aberration.

Ethan | 05.21.08 11:24 PM

Then people should Google - "Clinton murders" or "Clintons and John F. Kennedy, Jr." if they want to talk about vetting & scandals. There are about 93 unexplained deaths around the Clintons!

Angellight | 05.22.08 08:00 AM

Angellight....if we google you we would probably find the same about you.....be real. Get help, get meds. Better yet.....vote Republican.
